So I don't need to bed it into first coat of plaster then?
Was gonna get a roll from CCF tomorrow. What am I asking for is it just render mesh or is there a known brand name that's good?
Hi,
I have a wall to skim in my sisters house which has a lot of cracking so need some advice on how to prepare the wall.
The top quarter is part lime/horse hair from the late 1800s and part browning/finish from the early 1990s so should be fine to skim over.
Below that is S+C/multi applied by...
I'm in Newcastle. The house was built in the 1930s and I think over the years the rainwater has made its way through the concrete causing the rebar to rust.
Hi, a chunk of concrete has fallen off my Mums outhouse porch ceiling. The hole is about 40mm at the deepest point.
How do I go about preparing this for render?
Do I need to put something on the rusty rebar and will a bonding agent be required?
Also can I build up render in successive coats to...
Iv used 6mm glassroc on tight radius curves, you should be able to get it from a merchants.
Iv also bent 15mm duraline boards without wetting them, just put a few blocks/bags of plaster under each end of the boards then they will bend under there own weight.
Thanks Raggles, had'nt thought of that!
There's also a bit of patching to do in 3 other rooms before I skim them. All the walls are lime plastered sandstone.
Which backing plaster would you use?
Hello again, I have a sandstone 1st floor bedroom wall to plaster in my sisters house. It's approximately 400mm thick with no damp issues.
The lime plaster above the window was blown so I've knocked it off and I'm left with a timber lintel (which iv screwed plasterboard to) and about 300mm of...
Thanks mate, did a search and sure enough it's quite common. Read some interesting comments on the use of water :-) gonna try using board finish on the next room see if its any different.
The old timer I learned from when I was 18 used board finish for everything - he had me mixing it with a...
Probably major overkill but ended up using half a tub of bondit as I'd tried wetting the walls and the browning/thermalites just kept sucking.
I went round after work on Friday and ended up using a full bag to dub out 2 walls so knocked up another full bag to float.
First batch was pink second...
Iv only ever re-skimmed over old lime plastered walls - only used browning once so don't know much about it.
Should I just wet the wall a couple of times with water then? Or will suction be to high?
Hi, I have a bathroom to skim but I first need to float the walls flat as there are lots if hollows and bumps.
The existing plaster is browning with skim coming off in places after removing the old tiles.
I plan to remove loose finish, pva all walls, then use bonding to flatten them, then pva...
