I'm actually thinking of wrapping my employees in cottonwool and for extra protection strap bean bags to them also front and rear.
Wake up people. It's all a "claims game". It doesn't matter how well you police your safety on site a "dope"will always find a way....
And don't get me started on...
Building sites are not crèches. I had it myself last year with a "dope of an employee" Climbed up the side of a scaffold slipped 10ft up landed on the ground and dislocated his shoulder. Apparently it was my fault because I was his employer and I probably should have showed him what a ladder...
How the f@#k is that the fault of the building company. The dope who was using the saw is 100% at fault. I suppose its easier to claim against the construction company because they have the insurance......what a load of bullshit
Ya sand is lovely and clean. Good "bite" to it. Its very strange because over the last 2 years we were on a site doing houses which had a napp finish. Over the 2 years I never saw a hairline on any of the houses or boundary walls. Religiously used the 5 to 1 mix as stated above all through the...
Hi Malc. No the 2 mixes I mentioned in the 1st post went on over a 4-1 scratch coat.
I firstly scratched the panel at 4-1 on a Saturday and the following Saturday I finish coated the panel (divided the panel in half with 2 different finish coat mixes)
But why didn't the napped render have hairlines.....same mix. I'd guess 99% of plasterers don't put fibres in their render when sponge finishing. If it's the wrong mix for sponge finish I'm all ears
Interesting answer monkey boy but how would you evenly distribute water evenly over a sponge finish to achieve no hairlines. Its sponged with a damp sponge
I'm after doing a few sample panels at home here with traditional sand and cement. 1st mix was 5 sand 1 cem and half lime with 200ml evoplast waterproofer mixed into a 10 litre bucket of water
2nd mix was 4 1/2 sand 1 cem and half lime to 200ml waterproofer mixed into 10 litre bucket of water...
Ya 32.5N scratch 4-1 and top at 4.5 or 5 -1
What ratios do the people who use 42.5N use.
We used 52.5N white cement a couple of years ago and mixed it at 7-1 top coat and still thought it was a bit too strong.....
Hi all. Here in Ireland for as many years as I can remember it was always irish cement that was used for plastering/blocklaying etc. Irish cement has 32.5 Newton strength. There's a load of new cement producers (mannok,o briens etc) appearing in building providers and offering their cement at a...
West facing panel. Overhang about 30mm. Drip is underneath but about 5mm off the render. Theres 4 panels and 2 seem affected. Strange how below the 6-8 inches it's not affected at all. There is definitely a sheltered element to the opposite side. Green algae is pretty bad on the copings and...
Hi all. Did a school last year and got a call today from builder who says roughcast is "crumbling" under wall copings on a boundary wall we did. I called to investigate and it seems 6 to 8 inches under the copings has gone crumbly/ flaky. The rest of the wall below the 6 to 8 inches is solid...
Hi all. Just wondering if thermalites (quinnlite blocks) should be primed or sealed before gypsum plasterboard adhesive compound is applied for dot+dab purposes?
Many thanks
Hi all
I was talking to a spread this morning who has a few years on me in the plastering game and he said he doesn't use waterproofer in external traditional rendering at all. Plaz in both coats he said with some lime in the top coat.
How many of you agree with this????
Hi all
Can traditional sand cement render be sealed with sbr. Client wants to keep the render finish look and not paint. Would sbr be something that would do the job. Roll/paint on...
We're only using it as an undercoat for wet dashing onto. There's a plasterer mate of mine who uses it fairly regularly and always has trouble with it. He mixes his finish at 7.1.1 on to a 3.1 scratch. I pass a house every morning going to work that he did a year ago and after a shower of rain...
Why is 52.5 Newton white cement predominantly sold and used in the rendering game and causing unbelievable confusion about ratios when 32.5 Newton white cement is also made and sold.
Opc is 32.5 Newton predominantly sold and used so why do merchants not sell 32.5 Newton white cement.....
Cheers lastlaff
Here we had to give it 2 scratch coats
1st was 4-1 normal plastering sand and opc and waterproofer
2nd was white sand white cement 6-1with plaz (no lime)
Homebond spec
Is it OK to roughcast over white sand white cement mixed at 6-1 with plasticiser(no lime)
It's let to dry for 3 or 4 days but it's dampened down before wet dashing.
Wet dashing mixed at 7-1 (7 soured mix to 1 white cement)
Used this stuff last week. Mixed at 6-1. Lord Jesus does it set fast. The white cement was 52N. Have any of ye much experience with this stuff. Just hope 6-1 wasn't too strong.....
hi all
Just wondering if there's any difference between limestone white rendering sand and granite white rendering sand(besides the obvious difference in stone)
Which would usually be the preference
Hi all.
We have to Tyrolean a big fancy house in the new year and there's granite bands around windows and doors, granite bands all around the house half way up on each elevation and granite plinth.
Is there any sticky cling film on the market to cover all these (or some other product). They...
Really don't mind it at all. Slightly baffled though by some people who have never let the 2nd scratch dry and then wet dash it. Have always done it this way. Doing a school after Xmas and it's 6mm chip with white sand and white cement. Never dashed with the white sand+cement before. Iv heard...
1st scratch scarifier/comb
2nd scratch lightly provide a key with run of a yard brush or dome devil float.
Reason for 2 scratches is to make sure blockwork lines don't show through and weatherproofing.
And no, 1 heavy scratch would not suffice.
When wet dashing/roughcasting who prefers to apply a scratch coat, let it dry and then dash to a wet reciever coat. No.2: who prefers to give 2 scratch coats let dry and then dash.
Got a job with an assload of insulated plasterboard. Any1 use the pinkgrip over the bagged adhesive. Is the foam any good. It seems to be quicker......saves mixing washing etc. What are the thoughts?
If wet dashing with white sand and white cement onto grey cement brown sand background would anyone use a white sand white cement receiver coat or just dash straight onto the grey coat. Obviously if tiny bits are missed the grey bits would be visible. But if confident enough to cover every...
After talking to alot of spreads iv kind of settled on that I'm not using enough hydrated lime/plasticiser and using too much water in the mix. Did a rendering job last month and used evoplast waterproofer in the finish to the exact dosage it stated on the gallon drum. 1 part wp to 40 parts...
Cheers vfr12 but nah,it was fine to float(twice) and napped up OK. The plinth probably was a bit "soppy" due to it being layed on because after rulling off we had a barrow left over. Would frost create this effect....trying to remember if the nights were around freezing temps when done...
Was out for dinner Sunday at a restaurant we plastered 18 months ago. Sponged finished elevations on this place up on 80m2. Used the same mix as the house in this thread and the restaurant is fine. It was after raining aswell so crazing should have been evident..... 1 thing I didn't mention was...
I'd doubt drying too quick. There was no panic with it all day and its in the middle of a wood so well protected...and napped late November so damp coolish weather around then plus it was wet down the evening before and the following morning prior to laying on.....
Probably be fine when painted...
We do a scudding coat at 2 to 1 on every project. It's religion. We use a standard shovel. I have buckets that we use for gauging out and they hold 4 heaped shovels of sand well compacted and hold just under a full nag of 25kg cement (opc). I'm fierce particular when mixing and gauge to the...
Just to say we must have 10-12 house's done last year with the exact same mixes for each house. I'd say of the 10-12 houses done iv seen this sort of crazing in maybe 3 of them. We usually scud and scratch with whatever sand is left from the blocklayers and order more when it's needed. I'd give...
