1st coat didn't want to stick properly

Not a pro plaster tradesman by any means, so any help welcome...
Bought my house and ripped everything out. Tackling kitchen so far and can't complain. While ago I Stripped wallpaper thoroughly!
Lastnight I applied PVA (4x water to 1xPva...4:1) then Today applied 3xpva to 1 x part water (3:1)... To old plasterboard! When tacky I applied 1st coat of plaster which went on great but had few patches where it Just seemed to slide? (See pics).
Any ideas?
Second coat went over the top of 1st and seemed to adhere to no problems!
Any thoughts? Just made me stress a bit about 1st coat and thought whether or not second coat would adhere to...did thankfully!

This is the finished article! Was well happy with the trurn out considering the start I had! Sweating like a bast**d putting first two coats on mind you and cleaning bucket/tools so overall very happy with result! Hopefully its a good finish for a Novice? I'm happy with it anyway,

Had it happen on another small wall mate...that wall I had pva'd day before...weird! Saying this it was just to seal the wall so was 5:1 water to PVA ratio. You Reckon I should seal it day before but do more a 50/50 ratio?

You need to read the instructions on the side of the PVA can. Some makes have already been diluted and are ready to use.
