I would not try it myself as I was a time served plasterer and did not just pick it up as I went along but spunky is correct that its the plasterer and not the application that ruins jobsFill out beads and tapes lay a thick coat on let it pull in flatten it sponge it, let it pull in a bit more then trowel it
Sone can't some can and some are too up there asses to try it, I've seen some terrible 1 and 2 coat work
Modern renders would probably be easy enough for me, not interested in one coat or sponging work,it's the sliding scale of amateurism, I am more into where money comes from in my business, if its profitable without too much donkey work then I am up for it. Sadly people on here who are learning will believe you know what you are talking about.Forget picking up on modern renders then if you're too time served or just ignorant to pick up new things you idiot

Deffo last time we did it every set was taking 2 hours, when I trowel it up I put it on my hawk same as any plastering if you've got too much on you struggleLol don't mince ya words do ya spunk..
yeah I used to one coat exactly like that when I was on price serving my time, do you think sponging saves on time vs using a brush?
So do you end up chasing fat round the wall?
Thought I was winning you over spunky ,ah well, still hoping we can be beastiesLol every time you type something you make yourself look a bigger ******
I can do bothIt's not the right way to teach people though I believe ,I have been two coating since 87 and I could not change my way, lots of people know quick ways and ways you get away with.but I would run one coaters off my job and spongers too. If a job is that badly paying I think I would pass, but needs must as they say.
im not kidding there were 7 of us on a Vinci site for crest Nicholson all sponging and the old boy running the site said it was the best skimming he's ever seen I don't want to sound like John but by chance we were all good plasterers on the job and when it's dry it looks lovelyive done it how spunky does it loads of time for one firm in particualr and i have to agree with spunks, IF and thats IF you know what your doin and know your timings it comes out just as good as 2 coat work and the sponge marks that you can see but not feel.....you wnt see anything once the paints on.
dnt get me wrong i hardly ever do this but one firm we work for the rates are soo poor that its the only way we can make the job pay, still finishes lovley though
You sound so like me,we. Must unite ha ha, was the old boy mr magooim not kidding there were 7 of us on a Vinci site for crest Nicholson all sponging and the old boy running the site said it was the best skimming he's ever seen I don't want to sound like John but by chance we were all good plasterers on the job and when it's dry it looks lovely

It's not part of training ,it's not part of British gypsum code of practice, people say they do it because metre prices are so low, what next are we to do,how can people who do it right compete with spongers.how can you comment on if spongeing being bad when you've admitted not trying it??

Touche
I like this,nice bit of art work.:RpS_thumbup:..........:RpS_wink:...........:RpS_tongue:........
You have a point there but don't tell spunky,I have never done it or seen it done, have always and still do hate the thoughts of it,but perhaps without foundation,my two coat work is my way and remains so,but if you can do it with one and satisfy people who pay well that speaks for it self..Thats not what im getting at John, we can go on for ever about big companies and shite rates, blah blah blah. im on about your slateing someone else for using a technique that works and gives a good finish and you've never even tried it to be able to judge how good or bad it is...........loads of people slated speedskim who had never tried it. it works for some people and not others but at least try it before saying it shite, thats what im getting at
It's a bit of skimming why are you getting so emotional? It's not part of training ,it's not part of British gypsum code of practice, people say they do it because metre prices are so low, what next are we to do,how can people who do it right compete with spongers.
