A secure van?

A pal of mine turned up on a job, opened the back of the van to find tools missing. Turned out they have butchered a hole through the roof with tin snips. Not a mark on the out side till you got on the roof.

It's the very reason why to have your sign written.... plastering tools are not like chippy tools

No they are not! I haven't head of chippy machine to be anywhere near the 7 k mark. Sign or not, if it ment to be there is nothing you can do. :(

The majority of work I do now is tiling and I have one manual cutter which cost me £520.

I would not like to add the cost up of Al chippies gear and most plasterers don't have a machine...

A machine would be insured and easier to claim back than a tonne of hand tools.... also think of the work you would be missing out on....

Not having your van sign written is leaving money on the table for your competitors to take

yeah I had my van done in a similar way but just a tiny hole they prised back in the back door. They got fook all out of it as all tools were left on the job and I did an easy repair with pop rivets and wee steel plate. My neighbour has a Vito which they went in through the side door similar to imago's original picture but a bit neater. They got a mig welder out of his and it was chained up in there too. Anyway, he's a bit of nutter so he just sat back waiting for it to appear on ebay/gumtree keeping watch on all new items listed. " weeks later, there it is on ebay so he buys it, goes to collect it in person and you can kinda guess what happened when he got there.....

It's like anything. You can have multi lock doors on your house, grilles on the Windows etc. A scumbag told me one day if he wants to get in a house like that he'll just lift a few roof tiles, simples.
I got a secondary lock that @beddy recommended, really cheap and cheerful, puts the lazy laid back scumbags off, I live in London, you can imagine the type. It's another little barrier which they don't want to have to overcome

Another lad I know had his done same way. In Bidford. He did the same repair. To be fair pop rivets are very easy to drill out a welded repair would be better.

His van was emptied all but a few tools he left on site.

Yeah but a welded repair would mean a bit of a re-ray and I wasn't that bothered about it seeing as I didn't actually lose any tools. Ther are probably 20 rivets in the wee plate I put on so a fair bit of drilling. I was planning to just use a sharpie to colour the metal plate in black, same as the van but 2 years later its still a silver plate!!

Every tradesmens nightmare. Do ya know was this over night they where stole or during the day. Me personally, i bring all my power tools into the house with me along with my 2 sigma tile cutters. Only things i keep in van is few cheap powertools, 2 tool boxes, trowels, buckets, speedskims etc.. I even bring in my stone mason chisels because them arent cheap either. Would still be out a few quid thou if the bastards took what i have in van.

It was overnight I believe.

I think the scum who buy the tools are worse than the ones that nick them to be honest. If no one bought them they wouldn't get nicked in the first place.
