Just a glimpse at what I was looking at today... will do a full feature on plasterers news later this week :-)

A sneak preview of the eco house

Haha very much a work in progress but it is lovely inside...

I don't wish to appear deliberately confrontational, but it's a fcuking sh1t hole.

A strong fart would knock it flat, so even if it is (which TBH I doubt) nice inside, the inside will be outside before long.

Its made of tyres packed.... tonnes of timber inside complies to build regs... the poles in the front are just to have a little lean two on as the sun rips through those windows... was 37 degrees up there today :-)

Tyre walls sound like a great idea, sadly the science doesn't back up the happy-clappy hippy BS. If they're exposed to sunlight or moisture (buried filled with soil to make a wall) they leach arsenic, aluminium, cadmium, chromium, manganese, mercury, lead, sulphur, and zinc. So hopefully they won't be growing any edibles near them, or having a nice pond for wildlife? The fish may end up looking like the ones in the Simpsons.

Unless they're treated with some pretty nasty chemicals or covered in cement then they also pose a big fire risk. Coating them in cement sort of knocks the green credentials for six, and as they're frequently combined with timber for building the fire risk becomes even greater. Similar to the old cinder blocks they used for internal walls in the '50s. They take a while to get going, but once they are you can't put them out.

They are many methods for green and sustainable building. Using tyres isn't one of them and really should be avoided TBH.

It's early stages I am going back in October to have a go at using some render on it... I saw drawings of what it will look like when it's done.. living off grid is something that interests me a lot...

Did you see the grand designs episode where a bloke built his house from green timber cut from the woods around it? He used straw bales for the walls covered in mud/sh1t, composting bog, wind and solar electricity etc. That was properly green/ecologically sound, thermally efficient, cheap and looked good when it was done.

Come and live in the bog in Kildare if you're interested in living off grid!.

we plastered an eco estate in suffolk for a very rich lady. 150 acres of land with 4 properties that she found that had been abandoned since the 1950s. just used as a shooting lodge by a local farmer. this estate was untouched and her father is a green architect.
all 4 properties lime plastering. with reed ceilings, and party walls.

a reed bed sewage system.
only rubber electric cables as plastic give off fumes. all cables to be run around the edge of the room as she could not ask anyone to sleep under a cable as they give off a bad aura. all electricity to be returned to the grid not left in the cable when not in use. all paint to be eco and imported from germany as were the cables.

the land to be farmed using only heavy horses, the other 3 properties for staff, groom, au pair and gardener.
this lady had over 100m to spend so as she told me i have the money so i will have done what ever i want. this is our 3rd contract for her, i do anything to please her.

lucy is a very private person who does not belong in this century. she should have lived in an earlier time when there was just candle light. she would never take any medication, but would visit a faith healer.
i never think about taking photos of our work.
