rang a few papers up to see about advertising and the general price is around 200 a month that's a 6 day a week advert. does this seem a fair price?
another company that does the little trade books they want 30 a month which seems good,

got the van signed up, posted around 700 leaflets,

just wondered what sort of advertisement you guys do and what it costs.
i know to get he work i effectively have to buy it through advertising.
i get work through recommendation but only been on my own for a 8 months after been made redundant from my old company (not a course lol) so not getting enough at the mo

cheers guys

evening telegraph ( 6 days a week) is 58 quid a month in peterborough...
although the target (sleaford, spalding etc) want around 150, the guardian wants around 200 and theyre just little one day a week freebies wtf?

one of em is bradford telegraph and the other id leeds evening post. if it got the work in then 200 a month aint bad its just if it dont its a big waste of money i aint got

well if its any consolation, i usually find around jan / feb you get a bit of a boost from all the jobs people put off cos of christmas so if your gonna do it, do it now...

In Wrexham they've just introduced a scheme called "Wrexham savers" which is £300 for the year. They then put your logo and details onto there website in and you put a discount of 5%,10% or wotever you like, then wen you do a job for someone and it comes to paying, if they show you there savers card you then knock off wotever your discount rate is at the time. Not sure whether to go for it or not, wot do guys think?

yell.com is s**t, waste of time, I had about 1 phone call in 12 months from them!

checkatrade is where its at, 44quid a month, for the best advertising company in the country, with own website you can edit when ever you please, upload photos and get constant feedback from all your customers.

Well you've done the ringing around so you know what the market rate is. They say that firms cut their advertisng budgets in a recession - so the papers should be hungry and cut you a deal. Do you need to advertise every day? What about just an advert on a friday - working on the assumption that most people sort out their lives at the weekend. Or what about once at the start of the week and once at the end - working on the assumption that people are to lazy to throw away their old papers? Sounds to me like the papers are offering you their premium deal and you might want to haggle with them. After all £200 a month is 2 days work - so if the ad gets you 2 jobs a month you have broken even - more than 2 a month bonus - less than 2 a month costing you money! Try and talk to someone running the same style of ad you want and ask them how much work they get from it? £200 a year would go a long way on the internet but you need an optimised site and thats about £700 in the first year.

Hope this is helpful.

My last bill for advetising in the local daily paper was £388 for 4 weeks or 24 days. covered all my county and about 8 free paperps to smaller villages in surrounding areas etc.
This was for a colour panel 3 nights a week and black /white standard text 6 lines for 3 nights a week.
You do seem to get more work from the larger colour adds in my opinion, but it costs a lot more!!!

Not that its any of my business but aren't you therefore working nearly 1 day a week for the newspaper and 1 day a week for the tax man and 3 days for yourself?

Thats a lot of money for having your name on a bit of paper in someone's house - my local telephone directory wants £25 a year - but I guess if it works for you then hey ho.
