I am minded to use knauf exterior cement boards on a small timber framed porch 3metres square. I can get the boards delivered but not the joint filler and the mesh knauf supplies is hugely expensive (£220 a roll) and four times as much as I need. 1. Can anyone suggest any alternatives 2. Is it acceptable to simply use a normal cement render basecoat as opposed to the knauf (rather expensive) basecoat. I'd be grateful for your advice. I shall be employing a plasterer to do the work but want to get the materials in advance. Many thanks.

Aquapanel is approved for use with a number of base coats . Richard will be along any time. By the way I love using Aquapanel, versatile and easy to work with

Thanks Warrior, since I posted I've come up against another problem. I need 8 x 2400 x900 sheets for the job, but all the builders merchants I've tried have to purchase them from Knauf in pallets of 50 and don't want to hold in stock those I don't need. So it seems to be 50 or nothing. Does anyone know someone near Sheffield that might deal in smaller quantities. Thanks

Hi Pal

My name is Richard Lord and I am the Knauf Aquapanel Exterior Specification Manager

Drop me an E mail at [email protected] and I will give you some info to help you out.

To answer your initial questions, the joint filler only comes in a 20kg bag and will do around 25 - 28 m2 of joint filling..... as an alternative, you could use the basecoat from the render system you choose.

We do not discuss product pricing, but I think you have the wrong product for tape and jointing.... Aquapanel render products are not very competative anyway... we work with 14 other render system partners whom all are more competative and available. I will advise further by E mail.

I will be available by phone on Monday during office hours as well on 07918766577

All the best

Richard

What do you lads cut that gear with seems a t...t to cut

Hi Madmonk

I am sure others will comment.... but it is easy to cut with a stanley knife, or for squarer edges you can use a wood saw, circular saw or jig saw....

It is one of the easiest cement boards to cut on the market, and also the safest (most of the others have cilicate in them and this is a serious hazard if you breath in the dust.... not just me scaring you, ask for their MSDS sheets, they state it as well!)

If you want some further help or assistance, get in touch!

Rich

Encon might be able to sell you the board Quant's you require @dsleath29

Only use one of the render base that Richard advises. They are specified for good reason and I sure you want the job to last.

Weber LAC is readily available and we currently using it over this board with ease.
