Like I have been saying in the various CSCS threads, this government do nothing but invent new taxes to compensate for the huge budget deficit they have created.

Basically they have spent £178 BILLION more than they have taken in tax revenue.

Over spending by that amount of money is taking incompetance and miss management to an entirely new level.

So what do they do? Do they resign and let somebody who can do the job take their place?

NO............. they invent more new taxes and make it LAW, for us to pay for their misstakes.

Take a look at this video Link Removed

They are proposeing to make self employed to go employed, a criteria is, if you dont pay for materials then you are employed.

They will make builders take you on, on short term contracts on PAYE <-----A higher tax band.

Your take home pay will be 20% less! video here Link Removed

It will also increase the national insurance you pay and will cost builders 13% more in employers NI..................Well actually it wont, as we all know builders will just try to knock wages down to compensate for it.

A possible way around it is for site workers to get their own materials, although that will only result in nightly trips to B&Q, adding at least an hour to each days work, plus unloading the van and loading up the job each morning.

Although if you are constantly getting paid off the same firm they will be able to track this useing the cscs card number, as builders will be keeping a note of it.

Quite why the government constantly harangue the building trade is beyond me.

Barclays bank anounced a £3 billion profit this year.....why not take 1p more per pound off them?

Premiership footballers take home more every week than we do in a year....why not tax them more?

No the government want to hit us, hard, at a time when our industry is feeling the recesion more than all others.

Thanks for that you incompetant set of shltheads.

And also relax immigration laws to help keep the price of the olympic village down and on track, making the trades even harder to find good work in the London aera.

i get charged 20% tax then a further 2% for some CITB thing does anybody know what this is.

i know CITB is a training board but i cant understand why i now have 22% deducted from my wages

I thought this arrangement had been going for a few years now Nelly nothing new about it, you have to supply materials, invoice, pricework etc to qualify self employed status. I f you work for the same company all the time, daywork, you should be on the books and have the benefits what come with it but as you know builders dont want to pay for that so try and wangle this self employed thing.

Well there obviously is a new push.

I went on the federation of master builders website this morning for something unrelated and its on their front page.

At 40 seconds into the first video, the railings outside the window are shaped like a mans genitals.

new years resolution

get more credit cards wipe them out all in cash

get on an iva scheme

sign on the dole

happy days

you can get round it by supplying things like staples or screws and going on short term contract

great just cheered myself up, used the company loss calculator and its come out at over 5 grand loss a year :'( its all rough estimates but not looking good, now where's that rope?

You could all go Ltd. , when you are Ltd. you can't be made to work as PAYE to other firms, plus you can take a certain amount of your profit as dividends which are taxed at a lower rate.

This Hudson lot seem like a bunch of cuunts trying to scare contractors into using their services, and taking a slice of an already diminishing profit margin.

"I believe in an aspirational Britain,"
Gordon Brown

Hmmm don't think this new tax is going to make many people aspire to be in the trades?

Gordon Brown really need to do something for small business & self employed and quick...motivate people to design, manufacture, implement there ideas, get those prototypes made! provide startup loans etc etc etc

We should take a leaf out of germanys book I reckon

the countrys skint and cant keep up with its debts same as honest hard working joe bloggs .....my accountant told me there photocopying adverts in local papers and are keeping upto tabs with whos working where and keeping records for tax returns .....f**k em what else can you do ???

Of course it will come into force, that 178 billion is real debt, that cannot be written off.

Basically the government issue IOU's known as bonds which they borrow money off the strength of, and pay back + interest, so because of the interest they have to pay millions per day just to keep it at the 178 billion.

This situation wont affect me as I am purely domestic, with the odd builder and kitchen company per month.

I am bringing it to the attention to those of you that it will affect, so you can try to insulate your selves against it.

These b@stards have been wasting money like there is no tommorow, and at the same time been fiddling expenses like cheap chavs signing on and working........................and now they want you to take a 20% pay cut to cover it.

Come off it Nelly it will affect you big time, just think of all the site workers who will think it's not worth staying on site work and move into the domestic market.

I reckon they're right that a lot would get out altogether if they can, and who could blame them the way things are going, more and more red tape and lower and lower prices. I know some of us have been through recessions before but I do wonder how long it's going to be before prices get up to a decent level again, this time I get the feeling it might be to long for me to hang about waiting for it to pick up.

When I worked on site I was told that eeven though we were on day work we had to put down a meterage this way it would not look to suspicious.....

I will be going ltd when I return to the uk because my accountant was saying (dont quote me) basically pay yourself a minimum wage and then you pay yourself dividends that are only charged at 10% income tax..... However going LTD is going to be complicated especially for my new venture hope I have a good accountant.

...on accountants, my accountant managed to get my kit car fully funded through basically saying it sponsored my plastering company, which was bloody handy!

This country is screwed at the moment and to be honest it is not much better anywhere else in the world... maybe Darwin Australia but even then it aint great!

Agreed, but the thing is we pay so much tax, we should have near perfect infrastructure, amenities and public services...................but there not, there shlt!

People have said to me "oh but its worse in other countries", to which I reply, "I dont give a shlt I dont pay my tax to other countries"

The way I view it is, in all of history there has only one person who entered the houses of parliment, with the integrity and courage to actually do, what he said he would do, and for the greater good of the country.

His name was Guy Fawkes.

Danny I was ltd ten years ago & basically I paid myself from my buisness account into my personal account at the time it was £95 per week, then end of the month paid myself a dividend few hundred quid,
Doing it this way my accountant said the first £10,000 you earn will be tax free.
Takes some getting use to having a low wage for a few months but soon get the hang of it, & a few cash jobs help ;)
And I had more money back from the tax then, than I do as being self employed. But I went on the books for 19 months & hated it so went back as a subbie. Never got back round to going ltd again but was thinking of doing it this year.
This year I got £2045.72 back from tax, when I was ltd it was usually about £3000 & that was 10 years ago.

The last recession conservatives were in and they came up with poll tax, who ever gets into government it will be the same its just cycles of bad times and good times swings and roundabouts, the only thing i do know is if conservative get in dont expect it to get better as they are mainly for the rich to get richer and poor to get poorer SO were pretty much screwed :(

I'd like to think they had learnt better than that attitude by now.

However David Cameron recently said if they get in they will repeal the fox hunting ban.

I emailed him saying that, doing that would gain him a few hundred votes a best, but if he amended the smoking ban to where there is allowed one room in a pub where people can smoke, it would gain him a few hundred thousand votes.

oh boy the smoking ban......

do we have to get on to this????

Yeap I guess we do!!!

I agree you should have a room but as long as its outside and I dont have to walk through it then efair enough!

I used to run a pub and my lungs were fooked and its disgusting especially all teh yellow crap on teh walls.

By the way I dont mean to offend just an opinion
