I always do an earthquake test on any of my ad hoc scaff. Just put the apprentice on the scaff. Jump up and down on it shouting "earthquake test" if it holds its passed
Not sure your allowed to say black these days marraMy mate cut down a bit of chunky cellotex and taped it on to his hop up to gain a bit of extra height. Sadly the modification wasn't up to much and he fell off and rolled his ankle which swelled up and went black. Cost him a fair bit in lost earnings.

Exactly what happened, it broke at the edge and because he was up a bit higher and also quite a heavy chap he done himself a mischief!Yeah done that last year and it breaks away at the edges, luckily didn't have that outcome. At the time thought it would be ok but it only takes a moment to come unstuck
I generally find that if there's a labourer/apprentice on site you can take it as read that it's an automatic fail for a risk assessment.
