hello guys, whenever i do an estimate for repairs or removal of artex ceilings, im very cautious as to the age of the artex and wether or not it contains asbestos. i was wandering does everyone else pay much attention to this ie, inform the customer or get a sample analysed in a lab ?.

just googled asbestos in artex loads of different sites about it
artex stopped in aug 1984 but others kept on using it . upto 1989 is recommend test it if unsure--- v dangerous stuff . i know a lot of people who have met a nasty end ..... manly old artexers an plasterers!!!!!!!!!. BEWARE.if its a old house, and looks like the artex has been there for 20 years plus i just board over. or skim without scraping it first, just give it 3 coats.
thats what i do, i dont even know when they stoped putting asbestose in artex
just make it up as you go along Â

I did a lot of work for a firm that did work for insurance company damaged ceilings mainly,any artex was tested for asbestos and if it was found to contain asbestos the ceiling was taken down by specialists(ghostbusters) You'd be amazed how many of the ceilings had it in i'd say 7 out of every 10 used to save me pulling it down! And to think how many artex ceilings i've scraped back,not any more!!!
