Had to go back subbying for a £100 a day to an old firn i used to work for before going on my own as things really dried up at the end of last year, now doing good clean work (scimming boards.dot n dab, patching). No scraping down artex,No crap stairecaces,No haggling over the price of this and that with customers like i did on domestics.Still do the odd one minde you but it is still a refreshing change.

Good luck to you mate better of being happy in your work but but just to change it a bit and ime not having a go at you but where i live an average 3 bed house is maybe £220,000 average 2 kids to provide for car for mum van for you council tax and all the other bills gas electric etc. food and that is just the basics without putting a bit away for a rainy day and pension and holidays how the Fcuk do you boys do it on a oner a day less tax its not possible.

You dont mate but a job is a job . and if the wife works it's so bad. the question is, how much do we all need to live on.

Exactly Henry every one is different and generaly the amount of mortage you pay will dictate what you need, you have to pay that or no roof over the head then all the other s**t but i dont care where you live you cant have a decent lifestyle on a oner a day if you got family and a house.

That's the problem mate folks are making ends meet and are slowly sinking into debt. We only have to look at the way food and fuel has gone up and labour prices has gone down.

Interesting that cos according to the TV this morning even though the price of food has risen by about 5% in the last 18 months it is still cheaper pro rata with wages since WW2 and i have to agree food is relavitely cheep in this country if you shop around, all major food outlets Tescos etc only work at 2% profit and thank God they do the problem is council taxes, price of properties difficulty in getting a mortage and the growing trend that a lot of people have to rent, normaly to an ethnic Rigsby

I work like a **** 6 days a week and have done for the last umpteen years. Hopefully next year when my wife qualifies as a nurse, I can knock the Saturdays on the head as hopefully she'll start bringing in £20k a year.

Me mortgage has been finished about five years and me wife is a nurse.but still does,nt meen that we had it easy in the early years is was tuff with 2 kids an me wife not working so i know what its like for you youngins out there at the moment

Personally I know I'm ****** hopefully next year I can get on an iva unless something drastic happens I'm not tight on money I know a few that are and personally I can't handle living like that no disrespect, they come out with a tenner for a drink and are quite happy nicking you're fags all night etc I don't throw money down the drain either If we kept up with inflation etc we'd all be on 4 quid a metre or 150-200 daywork self employed taking into account holidays bank holidays sickness etc **** me we were on 3 quid ten years ago and 1.80 20 plus years ago ...... So here we are still 120-150 daywork 2.50-3.00 on price someone's making money how house prices can quadruple and the waged stay the same begets belief materials increasing etc can't have made that much of an impact At the same time there's lots of lads learning to skim and going by themselves so maybe there isn't a need for all-round plasters who can demand good rates I'm not an old timer I only started 10 years ago ......think were ****** tbh unless we all go on strike or get involved in trade unions

We started on site today doing chimney heads innitially come end of day we have the whole Hotel to re do so 2 weeks work has just turned into 8 plus it's all on day rate @ £15ph so not going to complain plus the mob im subbing for has another hotel 2 mins from house which is getting the full refurb as well, back to the 4 walls so hopefully now i have foot in the door we will get it as well:RpS_thumbup:

I filled the van up with fuel on the way home £95, bought me and the Mrs a Chinky at £18.How the **** can you do on a £100 a day.
Hope you can , but i`d be shagged.

That's what Im left with after bills based on 600 quid a week were left with a 100 quid a week ....... Bit of food shopping lol

I wish I was a youngster but i'm not. I've got 3 teenagers and a Mrs that hasn't worked properly since 2003. Roll on next year.

Ok, i`m a fat cant, i only had a sweet n sour chicken, egg fried rice, prawn crackers and chips and boiled rice for the Mrs.

prices wont ever get back to where they was i dont think.prices are dropping like a stone around my way for plastering and rendering and other trades are likewise, but house prices barely dropped off and are rising again,

if it was any other industry thered be outrage, then you hear about teachers striking this week due to there pension decreases and pay freeze fixed for 2 years, a pay freeze ?chance would be a fine thing. rates are over 30% less than 4 year ago. with inflation at 5% your moneys going less and less further, the goverment are doing sweet f**k all to boost the construction sector as well even a flat rate of vat at 5% for refurb work across the board instead of 20% would give the sector a boost.

i dont know how some lads get by.

What's a pension? ...... prices never Rose enough to go down again they just stayed the same for the blokes on the other end at least, I'd love to know what's going on at the top

One of the biggest plastering companies up this way are just pricing to keep their lads in work, subbing to a local company who I am reliably informed that their bosses are just laughing at the guy who runs it..........that's what's happening at the top mate:RpS_thumbup:
