Base coat finishing

Hi folks,
Was just wondering how other people finish cement based and adhesive base coats before putting a acrylic topcoat?

For acrylic/silicone trowel it flat.

Trowel, spat, sponge.

Been told by thd manufacturers, sponging is a no no.

Draws the goodness out aparently

Thanks folks. I thought so, when were putting 6mm base on, I spat it but if we're on masonry at 12mm I would I beam a rabble float it.
