Hi all,
Just after a bit of advice regarding base coat on block work. Either 3.5 Newton and 7 Newton. Krend and weber both say 15 m to stop ghost/blocks grinning through, but also says in Krend book 4-6 m. Just a bit confused. Been pumping OCR @ 15m onto 7 Newton, then primer and topcoat, but the Krend hp12 says 4-6 m in the book. So I have been putting 15 on to stop ghosting And it's cost a fortune. Can anybody shed any light ? Cheers folks

Ghostings more to do with mono and the pattern of blocks showing through especially after its been raining. With a thin coat over the top....not sure on the book but 10-12mm would be enough.

I was always taught that 15mm was the recommended thickness for the basecoat of plasterwork

Welcome to the forum Topstrop. why dont you introduce yourself in the new members section................:RpS_thumbup:

Manufacturers usually want 15mm on solid render but in total thickness. Weber however told me 3-4mm rend-aid and then 15mm mono. Well that is good for sales isn,t it? But Weber being Weber they will look for their usual get out clauses so they have out priced themselves on that un-written rule.

What goody says 12mm will be fine if base coat I would bead over with 10mm lay on to 12mm over the beads cut back to the 10mm to the bead

Ghosting was the wrong word. I mean the block work grinning through. I understand what your saying about, it's not gonna burn thorough the topcoat. I just like to follow the spec and cover my arse.
