after the big lay out on a machine is it that much faster at laying on render and flattening off than with a hawk, trowel n feather edge ? ?

More of the point that it is less strenuous on the body and you can get up each morning without aching

Nah, the reality is you get greedy, double your output and earnings, still ache in the mornings though as you roll out of your queensize bed.
