Big dollop of skim in the eye !!

Had to go A&E today after I got got plaster in my eye. I've had bits in before and it normally washes straight out. But this was awful, my eye wouldn't open and it killed. They washed it out for ages and took pH levels... Got to go back in two days for them to check up. Sight is bit blurry but hoping it will go back to normal.

Anyone had this before ?

Bless you mate, hope your eye recovers, I once got a huge dollop on my eye socket but I closed it in time, I just let it set a bit and peeled it off I had a red panda eye for a day lol

Feel for you mate had it a few months ago big dollop off the trowel straight in the eye 2 litres of saline to wash it out painful as f**k then blurred vision for 5 days literally halfway through a 40m ceiling still managed to finish the ceiling with one eye looked better than I do with 2

Absolute nightmare. Guessing your sight went back to normal ?

I have but never need to go to a & E though.. I wear safety specs now when skimming

I think weve all had a dollop of that at some point and its shite...had a mate doing the lime plastering a while back an wallop straight in..he was lucky in the eye hospital for 3 days
 
Been there . Burnt me eye. Had to put false tears in and other drops. Notice other day though i try not to go straight over my head if i do i squint just in case lol. Best tip . Ont rub it just get to clean water and chuck loads in then eye wash
 
My grandad eventually had to have his tear ducts removed , all lime in them day's

You’ve learnt the hard way my friend! Try you’re best to drop less in future or whilst skimming lids bob and weave and catch em on you’re hawk!
 
I had it a few years ago in one eye. I rinsed immediately but no good. Went to AE and had to have my eye washed out with saline solution for half an hour. Very unpleasant. I had dodgy vision for a few days after and looked like I had been punched.
I sometimes wear safety glasses but I find they steam up so I now never look up if I trowel directly above my head.
 
Dewalt total wrap rounds brilliant eye protection fully vented I highly recommend these , screwfix sell them

5months ago m8 in a& e for 6hours washed it out. my head in the sink for two hours very very painful. Going back to hospital for 4 weeks after becouse I had to put steroid drop in the eye check the pressure. Doctor told can be very serious plaster in eye you can loose it but I think they get mixed up whith lime and pink get lime in the eye difrent boal game I'm OK know but I was blurred for a good week
 
I got some mono dust in my eye earlier in the year, foolishly I rubbed it, but then I put eye wash in it, the pain of it, went to a and e, the eye specialist said the eye wash saved me eye, as it stopped it getting infected. As rubbing it at the time took the protective layer off my eye.
I had to have a week off work as I couldn't see, couldnt deal with light,couldn't drive etc it was horrific when I woke up In the morning it felt like someone was putting a needle in my eye,until the anti biotics kicked in.
The reality of loosing my eye sight in one of my eyes at 36 scared the s**t out of me. Now it's goggles/ glasses for everything and same for my lads if I see one of them rendering without anything on it's a twenty quid fine to a charity. Sometimes it's an accident or near miss to appreciate what you've got.
 
had little spashes from mixing burn the eye but sound after 5 mins. i skim lids weird i guess, i don't go directly over my head i spread to the side a bit and im very close so no stretching. feels well weird going directly over my head and if i did it the last thing id do is look up lol

Tbh I bought those after the guy posted on here about having his whole eye ball removed , even specs I wore weren’t good enough to keep bits out of eyes but the dewalt wrap are the best by far

It happens when your tired your not thinking straight had a few pint the night before your having a bad day can happen to anybody m8 nobody perfect . How does a good joiner that been in the trade accidentally loose a finger after 20 years?

It happens to me when tired too things like accidentally cutting myself with trowel etc etc I’ve just never managed tto get a massivd dollop in my eye. It isn’t really possible the way i skim

I thought that to lol but it can happen if seen many good plastrers get s**t in the eye did you know what the old school plastrers did when they had pink or cement in the eye??

I know a decent spread it happened to. I’ve jinxed it now. I’ll probably be in a&e monday morning. Both eyes full.

Im hoping they rinsed it out but have a feeling you’re going to tell me otherwise

They use to keep a milk bottle in the van just fill it whith water and it fit over the eye and rinse it out and I heard honey and warm milk good for the eye natural way il stick to the eye wash from the chemist lol

Only in the very hot days last week mate , besides that I always have them around my neck stepping out of van in morning, as soon as mixing anything inside or out put them on until materials are on , tbh i will whip them off every now and then but as said before I tried nearly all types of eye protection and find these the best , ventilation at the top and the bottom
