Big jobs vs small jobs

Oasis if your the sort of guy that only does private work doing 3 rooms a day probably seems impossible, but working on site is very different, for a start you don't actually put on a whole room at a time, you can put 4 or even 6 walls on at a time but by doing opposites you can mix the size of the walls you are putting on and amount of metres according to how much suction you are working on or how quickly the plaster is picking up. I often end up doing 4 or 5 smaller hits a day when theres lots of suction, at other times I will do just 2 very large hits a day, when there is little suction, the plaster is slow or both, you just need to be flexible in the way you work, be able to read the situation and have the confidence to sometimes put more on than usual.

With a lab 3 rooms a day with ceilings possible on boards with 10 hour day but not every day as it would kill ya?
Without a lab 3 rooms and ceilings a day a pipe dream 2 at most and that would hurt ya and you couldnt do it day in day out.
I just come back of holiday yesterday after a 3 week break in malta so takin it a little slowly today but layed on 2 ceilings and 3 walls and all beaded up ready for tommorow in 7 and a 1/2 hours work+1 hour getting materials on my own.Could have at a push put on 2 more walls maybe if i had no lunch skipped a (german word) break and cut the fag breaks in half.About 60m2 in total this was over skim apart form ceilings.

but did you turn back and flatten then trowel up?

andy do you 2 coat? im guessing its all ready to go and nothingg in your way. stright onto boards just lash loads on

I worked on a site the other week they had 40 skimmers on. I was'nt plastering and was wondering
how any one can work out exactly how much each had done a day to get the wages right. I work on the books for
a DPC firm so had never really understood this.

youll have a qs on site who's job is to measure everyones work 40 blokes sound alot but if he does it everyday it'd take him a couple of hours tops

sounds a bit like screeders only laying the hall and booking the whole flat, qs stands at the door friday afternoon and thinks its all done!

i worked with an old paddy who knew all the tricks!

Yes I always two coat Oasis. The type of work I tend to do means there is usually a mix of skimming on both board and S&C floating, usually with more S&C than board. Your right that there's nothing in the way, that's all part of being organised on site, something I know you can't always do on domestic work. If you saw how neat I put my skimming on you wouldn't use the term "lash loads on", by putting on neat and tidy with only shallow regular up and down lines in both coats means I don't need to flatten between coats and can trowel up quicker when it's ready and not before it's ready. As in most things less haste means more speed, I have had guys work for me who put on quite a bit quicker than me but then take a lot longer troweling up to a decent finish because or deeper irregular lines, I also take a lot of care with my floating making sure there aren't any holes or bumps and that it is all cut out nicely to make skimming easier and therefore quicker.
I know I've rambled on again but hope this helps you understand how you can achieve a high metreage and high standard of work at the same time.

i see. never a fan of not flattening off skim as i do lash it on a bit, maybe ill try it.. still i feel id just need 2 give the lines a quick flatten!

I wasn't saying your doing it wrong Oasis, on the sort of jobs it sounds like you do your not needing to eat the metres are you, so if your happy then don't change a thing.
