how have you been using scratch renders with out an I bar?...just using the scratch pad they will look dreadfull as there not flat.
an I bar will keep the wall true before scraping, even spraying a panel and ruling and spating flat your still going to get variants of a a good few mil, if your just going over with a scratch pad its poor practice, just wait until the sun shines near it.
not any of ours.Even Barred it looks shite with the sun across it wouldn't you agree @owls ?
the first option.Correct me if i'm wrong but from what i've read on here the proper method would be first pass, over with a serrated edge, second pass over with a serrated edge then spat, let take up a bit I bar, then once ready scratch back?
The guy I was working with would put a coat of around 8mm on scratch it and leave to set fully then another coat a few days later he would then rule with a speedskim and then leave it till it was ready to scratch. I don't recall anyone mention using a speedskim before.
the first option.
Never had that issue.Would you let the first pass take up slightly before applying second pass? the reason he was leaving the first pass to fully set was he said he found it would slump if he tried applying 2 passes in one go
Maybe a bit harder . Just go gentle with it but it gets the wall flat as fook .I've been working with another plasterer to get some experience using scratch renders, he doesn't use an I beam but i've heard alot of people use them here, would you use it just before its ready for scratching when you can just get a thumb print in it?
Yes, still works fine matehow do you lads cope when its a next day scrape and its a bit harder do you still I section
how do you lads cope when its a next day scrape and its a bit harder do you still I section
We gently open it with the large scratch pad and then I section away,it takes the horibble screeching out of it and makes it a bit easierhow do you lads cope when its a next day scrape and its a bit harder do you still I section
Hadn't used an I beam before on weber or k rend but what a treat it is to work with . Gets the walls flat as f**k and opens up the render to dry a bit quicker . Happy days
nice one cheers palWe gently open it with the large scratch pad and then I section away,it takes the horibble screeching out of it and makes it a bit easier
fuukin hate mono haha
Yep.Gears to wet or he's going over it to quick.
If you do it right you can get it on nice and thick without slumping.

Oh dear. What you on about a level? And you've been rendering on people's houses using that method.Hi guys, new member just reading thru the posts ,would somone please explane to me how you would use an I bar on K rend?i would normally hand ball it on and scratch bk with a level in one hand checking work as I go over it,but if there is a better way am all ears?
carry on using it then why waste money on an I section you must be unsure or you wouldn't get oneRight I take it that's not the way forward!as it happens I have my I beam enroute to me!and yes rendering houses with good results with a level as it happens I asked for advice not a smart arse comment!!
It's easy mate, just run it over your wall to take high spots off.Mad monk am always looking to improve ways buddy this way I will try if it's no good I'll try other ways as I find them! But in the meantime can you offer any advice?
fuuk that level off mate rule your gear with a serrated edge then spat over when ready is same day scrape you can gently run over it with the I section then finish off gently again with a long toothed scratcher gently again an it should be bang on don't forget hold the I section flat to the wallMad monk am always looking to improve ways buddy this way I will try if it's no good I'll try other ways as I find them! But in the meantime can you offer any advice?
