Because they aren’t designed to have elasticated waist bands.
Got braces on my bike leathers and they work fine. Now I need 'em on my work strides because I've eaten too many pies, and carry too much kit like Wayners.
But if you're working outside put them on the outside of everything but your jacket, otherwise you'll crap yourself before you can get all your kit off, and trying to rethread everything inside a tiny portaloo is a comedy sketch.
