British Gypsum & supply issues!!!

@BritishGypsum genuine question I dont care for any silly politician answers or % quotes that mean nothing to the man on the coal face.

When is this situation going to be resolved to the extent that just dropping into a merchant or diy store to collect a bag of finish or bonding will be as pre covid?

It's now at a stage where its not been viable to run a plastering business for 4 months due to the mercy of your organisation.

We needs answers as it's just not acceptable anymore you've completely abused your monopoly of the market and people very soon will have no choice but to fold.

I get your frustration but bg want to sell product so if they could fill every merchant tomorrow they would. They cant magic infrastructure to massively increase production it's not possible on such a short timescale...its the profiteerers you should be blaming buying it up and keeping it out of our hands unless we pay 30 a bag

The Diy stores are fully to blame for the profiteering that’s been going on! Plaster is a trade product and only should have been sold exclusively to tradesmen, as soon as they got wind of it happening. My local b&q’s have no limit to how much you can buy and who buys it. My merchants could have 10 pallets in stock and they still tell joe public that they haven’t got any.

I disagree this situation could of and should have been avoided. They let it happen and knew how it would unfold.

Its bloody diy merchants and ebay! How is it bg fault? I'm not understanding.there can't tell bandq and wickes etc on how to sell, with there managers leaving pallet loads in the back so they can tell there mates mates to come grab it..if there was no ebay this wouldn't be happening

when.theres a shortage the merchants should be the priority where they can allocate to workers who can prove its their business.
just because the diyers are paying "carriage charge". which i know they are paying.....bg are profiteering on this shortage..

we dont stand a chance against the dossers sat at home with nothing to do other than queue everyday to get bags and sell online

bq wickes and selco get 10 plus pallets a week.

merchants are on 3 week allocation

I've said before there should get none until situation is sorted, there's no need at all 4 diy stockists to get any plaster at all,if people want to have a go DIY style there should be told hang on a minute there's a shortage so let lads who really need it have it,and the rest are just buying to sell

Not doing too bad, could be worse

BG aren't allowed to only supply merchants and ignore the DIY stores otherwise they'd come a croper of the competition laws.
The blame lies squarely with the likes of B & Q and Wickes.
That's why I don't get people blaming bg how can there control piss poor management from them clowns, how there can allow any tom dick and Harry walk through with trolley fulls when there blatantly not a spread is a joke and a scandal.its widely known all over UK the shortage of plaster

Your missing the link they created the shortage knowone else

I’ve been reading that staff at the DIY stores are cashing in on this. Using staff privilege to reserve pallets and then flog them however they choose and make a little profit. That or keeping them for friends and let’s face it, everyone knows a plasterer.

100% thats why I'm not getting lets blame bg

There could be running at 100xs pre covid, idiots will still buy it up they have nothing else better to do

I disagree people where never going to have gone from having zero stock in the back of there van, lock ups units etc and with a massive backlog of work to book in to just buy what they need for the next day/ week.

Every plasterer in the country is trying to build up some stock which they woukdnt normally do. I dont even get this whole diy debate & prophitering argument sure there some but most is builders and spreads buying more than they normally do through fear of losing work and not being able to pay there bills!

I’m guilty of this BUT! I’ve bought loads as I could get it and have shared with lads I know that need it. My garage is rammed full but only because I took what was offered as I knew a few lads that couldn’t get any. It’s a vicious circle that I don’t see being resolved just yet

We are just cogs in the machine

As zombie said the fact BG supply 99% of finish products in the uk we’re all stuck when things like this happen. Same when they send out bad batches, we all suffer because they’re pretty much the only suppliers.
If only there was competition. I honestly don’t think we’d be in this mess.

I didn’t say it was their fault. What I’m saying is there is no alternative. So whenever anything bad happens with BG we all suffer for it.
If knauf or Make Good got their act together with finish it would be good for the trade.

Been phoning around 3 b&qs local to me every morning. But seems there attitude has changed Shoreham branch called me at 1pm said as a trade point customer they will put 10 multi aside. When I got there they had 3 pallets in the back warehouse loaded my 10 on a trolley the rest is only for tradesman nothing going to shop floor for general public!

Can put a man on the moon but we can't make a bag of finish to compete with bg lol
