Hello all.

I am new to the site but have been reading for a while and learnt a lot of great tips but wanted some advice please?

I have been plastering for over 2 years working for local plasterers and a few jobs of my own but want to get into site work. I believe site work would help me speed up and the earning potential to be good depending on my meter coverage? I understand I need my CITB Health & Safety test first to even get on site and that is booked for next week. And as I wasn't apprenticeship trained I would start as an Experienced Worker? After that though what is next step to get work on a site? How do I go about finding work on a site and what does the Experienced Worker level involve?

Any help or advice would be great!?

Thanks.

hi there
site will speed u up cos on ur first week u will hurtin all over 2nd week u will finkin of given up plastering 3rd week u will come to the conclusion u have to get up at 5 and work till 7 be tired all the time and drink alot ahhhh the life of a spread ;D na seriosly get on a site whith someone thats already on there and watch the ruotine same day in day out

Hi, if you take a look in the new to plastering section, you will find all the info you need on CSCS etc...... Good luck to you on site.

Once you have done your health and safety test your pretty much fine then to go on site. There is then lots of places which you get your qualifications from on the card and that is free. Then is the easiest bit at the moment getting a start! Gone of the days where you could just pull up outside a site walk on and get a start. If i was you i would find out phone numbers for all the plastering contractors in your area and givr them a bell. But it is f**k**g hard at the minute to get on a site as work is scarce and pay is low

yeah site will speed you up cos its a case of swim or drown. in other words the prices are low so you need to work twice as fast to make your dosh plus the rubbish of gettin no material set up or water bein off or whatever else slows u down along with buggers pi55in in your buckets all these things have an impact so you become faster and fitter and closer to death evry month, if you dont make much cash at first dont give up cos it will come when you get into it. just keep barkin at the labs to keep your bags loaded and barrel full. you be fine when the pain barrier is broken. what area you based

I'm based in east sussex but prepared to travel if the moneys good. I've been told you can make up to £300+ a day if your good? Also been told that site work is a bit crap but want consistency for a few months to speed me up.

Yeah spoke to guys at CSCS and they said I'd have to do an NVQ for a year as an experienced worker as I wasn't apprenticeship trained. Does that affect earning and learning potential though?

Could effect getting a start.

my mate told me they were free but i will chase it up. you can get a bog standard cscs that shows you are safety competent but then you can get a trade card after your nvq. it wont affect your progress pal 98% of what you learn is from experience

300 a day, i know a firm that operate inner m25 london they pay their subbies 2.50/m2 thats some goin if you can pull 300notes better set your alarm clock. there will be times i suppose - a good job with a good area you can earn great money but these jobs are bloody rare.

Did kinda fall into private since october and been flat out until a couple of weeks ago but dead now!? Thought going into site work would help my growth/speed etc and be more consistent run of work? Have given a handfull of business cards to each customer, advertised in local paper and shop windows but not getting anything solid at mo!? Frustrating! :'(
