Can you add Cement to Bonding Coat to make it stronger?

Hi,

The builder has said if cement is added to
the bonding plaster then it will dry faster
and be stronger to hold the large wall tiles
we are using.

I was wondering if this is a common thing
done in the trade?

adding onto what to what beddy says ..........

cement should never be added to any pre mixed gypsum plaster- because of the chemicals react with each other, unfortunately this is a widespread practice - because it sets fast, mainly used for repair work

only time i ever put cement in bonding is when im doing staircases with winders,, helps the first coat go quicker on the eml,, like puddove says not the right thing to do but comes in handy at times

If you add too much it can grow a kind of fungus

If the builder says its ok....then it must be ok:rolleyes).....
And dont use pva on the bonding before tiles.....a thick milk and flour gloopy mix will do the job:RpS_thumbup:.....milk and flour cheaper than that pva ****:RpS_wink:

Who plasters a ceiling with bonding and no cement in it. Sure you would be waiting ages for it to go off.
