Ceiling & Bad backs???

Suffer terribly with bad back...tried crates,steps,hop-ups,stilts, even just bought a speedskim and pole to try and alleviate a bit....

No matter what I use always seem to ache whilst doing/after even when trying not to over stretch and even on tiddlers etc

What do you thinks worse for a bad back and why?:RpS_crying:
 
all about being at the right height i find if im too high up lean back more witch hurts me back or if too low end up streching
 
Stretch exercises every morning evening and during the day, change of mattress maybe, but that's generalising, there could be a number of things wrong with you and none of us are experts, you should push for a scan if possible, could be muscle, nerves,bone, or other more serious condition, hope its just one of those things that we all get from time to time

Currentley under the chiro at moment going to give a few more sessions then I guess mri if still no improvement...only 40 but really starting to feel this bloody job!...

Used to quite like ceilings at one time and used to use stilts but fell out with them few yrs ago and since cant ever seem to get into a steady rythem if you know what I mean? Feel like I have no system anymore...

Like just being able to throw crate and steps around but cant get much of stroke as cant use your legs like on a hop up or stilts so its all shoulder work......

Hopups like being able to get a good 2m pull but hate having to bend down to move and often to high up......

Stilts like being able to get a good pull and such but my god my legs ache after about 20mins and hate having to get off to mix and such......

Bubbles has had back problems in the past he maybe able to give some advice. What I have seen for myself with young lads is mixing large gorrila tubs of multi and lifting them to were they are working, can not be good for you.
 
sometimes get an odd twinge in the back first thing in the morning, but its usually gone by the time i leave the house. if you have it all the time through the day i think you need treatment. but the problem is a bad back has a poor prognosis. you go the doctor and he'll likely give you some ibuprofen or diclofenic. i needed acupuncture for mine about ten years ago now and its been great since. was probably lucky with who i chose at random. could not have worked and i would have been homeless now and panhandling and washing peoples windscreens at traffic lights
 
I know a couple of lads that have had vertebrae wear away with this job. One was off for a year with it. Got to look after your back somehow or you'll end up crippled.
 
what are the first signs for bad knees, john? a few times recetly ive straightened up after crouching and felt a sharp pain across my knee cap and a feeling like my legs going to give way. but a minute or two later it'll be fine again.
 
also john whats worse for the kness crouching for to long or kneeling on the floor with knee pads?????

I only ask as I always crouch and don't posses any knee pads just wondering if they will be the next to go?:RpS_crying:
 
You don't wanna be skimming ceillings off steps .... christ thats hard work.

I just set up at right height hop up or crates whatever, then run a plank across.
 
John can't you just have knee replacements instead of the countless ops?
Not as easy as that, they prefer you to be at least mid fifties, you start off with cartilage ops, clean outs etc,then bits of broken bones removed, I progressed to high tibial osteotomy, then another op to remove metal etc, my next op is a partial knee replacement on the left leg, it's beyond repair, I am leaving it as long as possible, sick to death of hospitals and recovering, but probably will need it this year, every knee is different, every problem is different so cannot advise
 
Jumping from any height is bad for knees, really bad as is using steps ,climbing ladders, working off ladders, running on hard surfaces etc

all ways got a boot up the backside if my journeyman saw you plastering on your knees, personally whatever you find most comfortable do it.
 
There's a yoga position called the cat? Or something? That used to help me out! Type in to YouTube bad back exercises!
 
Wear and tear In this job will Fck u whatever my advice is get out of it if you can or if you have to do it make it comfortable, I did a small ceiling this morning 10 feet high of steps and not one rung was comfortable needed the one inbetween.

lol.....that's exactly what im like all the friggin time bit to high bit to low never comfy and just bloody dread em these days....that's why through desperation im looking into all these new speedy gizmos etc...I figure if it takes a couple of up and down the hop ups out per set its worth it!:RpS_thumbup:
 
Have you not thought about planking room out? pain in arse, but its a dream .... It would be worth it if your suffering.

Harsh that john. Hope that's not me in years to come.
 
Ideally when setting up for a ceiling what i was told as an apprentice and it aint done me wrong since is, whatever you are working off should be at a height so that when you spread out your hand and place it above your head with your thumb tip touching your scalp the tip of your little finger should be touching the boards. this is why i know what height stands i need to set batterns off for 8ft and 9ft ceilings

Feckin hell John, get over it. We're all suffering with multiple pains, we just don't go on about it all the time :RpS_scared:
