Hi

New to this forum.

Looking at at overboarding on old plasterboard just in my small hallway.

My my question is where the new plasterboard on ceiling meets the wall if the fibre glass tape is skimmed over what do I do with the tape exposed on the wall? By the way the walls will not be being plastered.

I am sure I read somewhere that someone used decorators caulk instead of tape in this situation?

obviously I don't want (if possible) to start having to skim the top of the wall and was wondering in general what is done in this situation?

Advice would be much appreciated.

Chris

Me old man always chopped off the top 2 inches of the wall. Boarded almost the the bricks and bonded the tops of the walls back up and did the scrim joint.

Meself i take no notice and skim away. If it cracks a little around the edge flexable decorators caulk sorts it out.

Flat scrim will still crack. Scrim as normal. Skim lid and just use a little filler and blend it into the wall when u decorate. I assume Ul pain the wall at the same time as he ceiling? If not just skim the wall as well. U won't get charged a lot more if it's small like u said and it's an extra hours painting. Do it properly if u can

He meant Scrim on the edges of the boards - scrim needs to touch to the wall. For me, I chalk into the gap then scrim over.

Why would you need to tape and scrim up to the wall? I think I may be getting a little confused - which don't take much for me.

If you tape along the board but only just up to the wall why would you need i tape as the tape wouldn't be connecting to the wall?

Or am I completely losing the plot? I haven't got a clue so I am not questioning you but just asking.

If i dont want to blend in the top of the wall to stop the tape being exposed would it just be easier to fill with decorators caulk?

Only reason I flat scrim ceilings if there's a gap is to stop skimming falling out and slopping down the wall - especially if you need to be extra careful :)

dunno bud but I've come to the conclusion the majority of people coming on here are people making fake accounts so other people can answer their false questions or even worse people making fake accounts so they can answer their own questions to make themselves look good.:RpS_thumbsup:

means you can be a bit lazy on your boarding as well :RpS_thumbsup:

no need to worry about those tight edges :-)
