i only ever scrim tape the joints but i know alot of people use jointing compound.... just wondered what the prefered method is?????

Scrim only..Best to leave a little gap for expansion/settlement in my opinion....im sure some will argue against this though

I just use scrim, no compound. Been using that silver scrim lately, sticky stuff! Alot better would recommend it.

are you saying that you know a lot of people that scrim tape their plasterboard joints... then fill with jointing compound... then pva the jointing compound... then finish plaster the whole thing?
with square edge boards or tapered edge boards?
what do these people do on the square edge of a tapered edge board?

your defo getting mixed up with tape and jointing but in any case they still use scrim or the paper tape either way the joints always need some form of tape, if you just use a jointing compound it will always crack.

Maybe your question you thought you was asking skimming v t&j in which case skimming all day long

:o newbie question coming up get ready for the barage of insults!!!! :o

Whats taping and jointing then??? to me that would be covering the joints of plaster board with scrim tape before you skim???? is this not correct???

Also someone mentioned silver scrim? is that really hi adhesive scrim tape??? i hope so scrim tape is so low tack it does my head in??? in info would be really helpful... many thanks....

P.s and insults ,,,, bring it on :P

Platinum.I use that gold scrim wth super glue backing. As for taping and jointing thats the process of builing a big fat joint, smoking it then using masking tape to cover the cracks with.
Didnt think this method would be used now days on site !!!! obviously im wrong.
