where you based and how much are you willing to spend on the course?

spunky don't be mean. let him put his coat on before he fucks off. but skimmins right. its the trade to be in at the minute. its the only one not affected by quick worthless courses, the polish and taxes. theres loads of work available and hardly any plasterers so we can charge what we want!

people blame the polish and to be honest ive been on a lot of sites and not seen any polish plasterers, fair enough the boarders, dabbers, metal stud, mf fixers, hoist operator, security and labourers where foreign but not the plasterers.

Any body see that program on last week i think called THE IMIGRANTS ARE GOING HOME,all about basically the english v the polish, there was one bit with a british chippy doing some stud work and boading and being slagged off by some N O B head.....

thanks for all your help! a lot of french comments which have been very helpful, for a fresh starter.
I am based in stafford and will spend bout a grand max on courses, has anybody got any SENSIBLE suggestions??

Thing is as some say on here a course is the only option for some people, just dont expect to much from a couple of weeks training id of thought.... :-\

itll give u a half ar$ed idea of how to skim a perfectly square flat board in perfect conditions. but u will go and do a job and go, oh no, this board has a corner :o and wont no what to do

Its like this mate. Alot of people on here spent years learning their craft and find it a little annoying that people expect to go on a course for 2 weeks and expect to take overthe world. Along with the fact that the people who come off the production line of courses are willing to work for not alot and in turn devalue our trade and affect our earnings

Give me the grand I'll teach you, I'm not that far from Stafford.
1 week should just about do it ;D

Think Danny and Big Mart and one or two others did courses, think they had good things to say about them.....

Think he will bite your hand off. Why waste two weeks when you can get all the knowledge required in 3 days

Hello

Just my advice.....

Courses are all well and good because they give the people that are just just not able to do a 3 year apprenticeship....

However they do not make you a plasterer, it comes with time and persistance.... and determination.

Yes I did a course, however I was labouring for nearly 2 years so I had an idea.... I just needed to refine my skills and when I left I was able to skim float ect but I could before I did the course.... but i just had some confidence.

I now would recommend trying to jump on with a gang and learn then decide if you like being dusty and damp all day long... I worked for free to prove to a gang that I was keen! The course is good for DIY'ers but it wont make you a spread.... that will take time

I also know its a fact that 95% of course goers actually end up selling their tools....

I was one of the minority that actually made it but then I am an odd person anyway.

Also here is something that I used to do when I started and that was going pricing jobs and getting them then I would get a time served spread in to do it... which is helping both me and the industry.

Danny

The course is good for diy'ers

rent a pub car park, buy a jetwash, sponge and some fairy liquid. and tackle all the foreigners at car washing!
