Hi Guys.
Gota to do a quote on monday for a whole house boarding skim and coving to ceilings.
I got no problem quoting the plastering and boarding.
how do you guys charge for coving instalation ?by the metre ? room day?
been years since i done any coving and not to sure to be honest and how to price it to make it pay.
Advice welcomed many thanks.

If you haven't done it for a while, or only do a couple of rooms a day, then you'd better charge dayrate plus materials. Generally I can do 100 mtrs a day without killing myself and like to get no less than £2 a metre for labour. If i'm "on a mission," i'll do 140-150 metres. Materials will cost you between £1.25-£1.50 a metre.

many thanks guys.I think im gonna have to charge day rate cus i aint gonna be that quick, hopefully i can do it within 3 days.+ 3days to board the ceilings and 3 days to skim em.

i dont really like to talk money if i charge her £1950 all in with materials its a typical 3 bed semi with h/s/landing large kitchen extension and 2 rooms down stairs with fireplaces to cove round downstairs toilet and bathroom upstairs, overboard ceilings skim and cove them.
£1950 it sounds a lot to me

if its straight forward and the rooms are clear can you not get a lad in to help board it all get it done in 1 day skim the next 3 ceilings depending on size should be possible in one day one an half at a push then crack on with the coving

cant see how its possible to overboard a 3 bed houses ceilings in a day even with 3 people. All the rooms have furniture in furniture in apart from one bedroom.all the carperts are staying from the staicase up upwards, downstairs carpets are to be binned.

sorry pal i mis read i thought you sed it was just the 3 bedrooms and as its occupied then go with your price if you think you can get it

Deepends where you live , price seems fair , if not alittlecheep. If rooms are occupied , you will need to board , skim and cove before you move on to another room, waiting for furniture to be shiffted etc.

wow cheap m8...i'd be looking at a higher price labour only before u even add the mats. Obviously depends where u are...but thats alot of work m8, and coving is a nightmare.

iv just broken a Georgian coving when taking old render off... nooooooo im fu*cked on this one..

where you from oasis i know a lad that repairs cornice work can also create moulds to match existing it isnt cheap though

cheltenham mate..yea thats all iv hurd all day it will cost..there is no money left in the job so cuz its only a small edge we have got a picture rale and cut it down a bit and am goin to fix it on to moro and try and make it look gd.. it ent that bad but a pain to fix..

im based in leicestershire.
The house im doing is for a family that i do a lot of work for and have done for many years, there asiains and it a big family with grown up kids and ive done work in there houses also including fitting kitchen new bathrooms plastering tiling small wallls gates fenncing etc etc..they keep me going for 4-7 weeks a year on average between them all.they also pay with paper and on the nail (most important)
So im not looking to make a fortune as they wont payt it,and i always get work from them and there freinds so it dont pay me to be greedy.
i should make a wage on it but not a fortune.
Also theres a very good chance il be painting the rooms after so it might work out to be even better.

oasis if you have a piece of the cove you could cut a profile from zinc and make a new piece yourself, run it on a bench at home in the shed or summit

no i dint, but thanks all the same. ill snap a photo 2 moro as show ya the gr8 bit of craftsmanship

the great bodge ??? lol Like it.

I broke this womans lamp once, it looked like a well expensive number, it was made from china and at the top went like a bottle neck which is where I snapped it..... a dozen matches wedged in there fixed that one...fewww

if i paid some 1 to fix this i would be on a loss.. iv made £120 a day take home after tax for 2 days work.. hard work.. how can pay some one else to fix it!

I am all up for the bodge mate but at the end of the day you broke it, you have to fix it. If the customer is happy with a bodge then fine if not then you have to cough up or make a claim on your insurance.

.....can any 1 recommend dirt cheap liability insurance :'(

ive been meaning to get insurance for the last 4 years

You want good insurance mate not cheap........ at the end of the day your insuring yourself (business)for any fcuck ups you may make or any future law suits comebacks etc etc.
no good getting cheap insurance that doesnt cover everything you need it to.
The insurers pray on gulable people that pay for rubbish that is of no use to them, cus at the end of the day they dont want to pay out.

good advice skimming, had a mate who had cheap accident and illness insurance (allied american i think) lost a leg in a bike smash, got nothing.....

fair play skimmin...nothin better than doin a reskim then having an easy week painting it :)

Oasis ...why not go multi trade mate ????? property maintenance
Doing a bit of everything. I fit kitchens, bathrooms, plumbing plastering, tiling, painting, some carpentry work also small brickwork etc etc .
Nearly always got work on of some kind. And doing different stuff stops you getting board with the same old sh*t every day.
i only advertise for plastering and painting apart from the website which offers all trades.
very often you go in to skim out a kitchen for example then you end up painting it tiling it fitting kitchen hanging doors etc.So a 2 day job turns into 2 weeks work.often the case.

well every skimed wall needs it paint.. im on the edge or a mirror company to my plastering comany same name sept painting same logo bit diffrent colour coad ect ganna av ago at killin it! LOOKIN into a second van and all for the near future

so youre gonna be 'dot and dab' painters and decorators? ;D

have you guessed what it is yet?? ;D
