How much did they quote for the work and how many metres ?

In my experience churches get nailed by the "Experts" they make sure charity begins at home (y)

Rising damp area was about 5m2, tanking below ground approx 8m2, total a lot more than me lol

Cheapest price was just under 5k + vat (refundable, they're a church, kind of )

I would have had that priced about £3600 the big boys seem to get it, looked at one the other day, had been injected below the external ground height internally.
Took of the skirts drilled and stuck em back on. no re-plastering because they cannot do it.

Its failed and they won't go back lol, needs tanked and these pricks get pushed by estate agents and mortgage lenders.
 
The whole industry is a farce but if you explain to the customer there's no need to inject but they want it done anyway, why not stick another £1000 on the job. Their stupidity should not go unrewarded
 
I guess we all have a point where we decide enough is enough when it comes to prices, I prefer to earn a decent bit but not rip people off, I don't think you need to if I am honest.
If your good at what you do then usually that helps win jobs too.

The whole industry is a farce due to lack of experience and building knowledge, these salesmen/surveyors are closer to car sales people than building professionals.
They have no real on the tools experience, they are knackered when they meet someone who has been in the game for a while.
I usually am the guy who comes behind correcting their cock ups, was the quotes from the usual nationwide crooks?
 
Interesting the way Which magazine point out that high exterior ground level causes rising damp. Well feck it anyway, I thought that was penetrating damp.

I think rising damp has become a generic term for all damp. The firm I work for get regular calls asking for rising damp surveys upstairs in bedrooms etc because they have black mould.

Nothing worse than getting a call from a customer asking you to quote on some rising damp upstairs when you know it's probcondensation and you tell them that on the phone but they still want you to look.

We had a guaranty clam a few years back. So my boss went back to look at a damp wall we had treated. This property was a rental. The damp he was shown was in fact condensation at g/f level. After explaining damproofing and replastering does nothing to treat condensation the client/landlord hit the roof. Saying he was conded Missled and all sorts.

My boss advised him to contact the PCA for a independent damp specialist surveyer to have a look and settle the matter. The quote was £750 which the landlord refused to pay. That was the end of it we never heard of him again.

We normally charge £60 ish depending on the description of the problem over the phone to attend and survey property's now. Unless your a regular builder etc. most seem happy to pay
 
Condensation is probably the biggest problem in the damp sector, lost track of the people I have told to change their habits and vent bathrooms and kitchens.
I charge £140 for a survey and usually try to look at small jobs for nowt, but I have stopped going to condensation calls as its a total waste of my time.
Some people make money out of condensation surveys but I cannot be arsed.
What I do now is if doing a survey I highlight the ventilation in a property or lack of it.

A certain person I know tanked a whole wall of a house internally and then stud it off and skimmed it.
The finished the job everything was fine for 3 months then he got a call from the customer that the damp had come back around the windows.
it was impossible, anyway long story short he caught the customers wife spraying water on the window reveals. The bastards were trying to get money back, becarefull out there guys. And its always the rich ones :tonto:
