Never used p.v.a with dri wall. Company I used to work for used finish mixed with neat p.v.a to dab reveals when he went short of dri wall. Anyone heard of that one?

Yeah heard that one before.
Ripped loads of houses out & noticed most of them were dabbed with finish.
Ripped some polystyrene backed boards off the other week & they were dabbed with pva & finish like you mention plus 3" plugs & screws.
The dabs were a (french person) to get off the brickwork!
So can't see a problem using it ;D

Surprising isn't it?! Who'd have thunk it! Wouldn't Do it myself but it shows it must work.

to an extent you are right but it is suction and key that create a bond, so if you paint over block work then you still have a slight key

you should still gypbond painted surfaces inc blockwork prior to any plastering/dabbing

i would say that if you gypbond the paint then your gypbond is only as good as the paint it is sitting on so it wont do any extra to help dabs stick to the wall as the dab is ok for low suction anyway, and you will still be relying on how strong the bond is between the paint and the block there fore if the paint is going to part from the block then thistle bond it will only be stuck to the paint anyway ;)

on the subject of using finish to stick boards does anyone remember when everyone used to use carlite finish ( think it was carlite anyway.....it came in a black bag) to stick em up. i was only a young lad and i can't remember if it was just a local thing or if it was everywhere but i am sure the local merchants didnt stock adhesive, and every plasterer round here used carlite, im talking 20 yrs ago.
