dome ceiling in theatre

have been working in the kings theatre in Edinburgh(damp proofing)and have been asked to price the domed ceiling 70ft above the stalls,it will probably be
boarded but how the hell do i price this,will no doubt need a straightening coat of bonding then finished,must be about 200m2

That sounds pretty cool.

Not sure it will need a straightening coat, more like a curving coat, bu I know what you mean.
If you get it , and do it . We must see some pics on here.

Good luck with it, you will need some good trowels on that.

mark diddnt you buy a trowel from refina that would be ideal for that, the marshaltown permashape that was bent:RpS_lol:

Never mind just pictures, those la-di-da theatre types bound to know a few people with good video skills, even for their own marketing purposes they should want to film you doing it.
And charge your top day-rate with plenty of hands available :RpS_thumbup:
 
sounds like a proper interesting job mate.probably just fill in hollows first i would think,then finish.for that mate you have gotta price it surely,its goin to be a good earner.specialised job with a specialised sq/m price.£15.plus the curve will hardly be that noticeable when your working over that size area.good luck mate.
 
just to set it mabey as was said above 15m2 thats 3000 pay out 1200 to extra hands thats plenty of spreads and labourers youll be able to hit in one go leaves you with 1800 for about 4 mabey 5 hours work (with prep and clean up)
 
Sounds scary. Is it sectioned off or one big ceiling?

Scaffolding will be interesting on that with the gradual height differential. Then you'll need to get powder and water up or perhaps mix at ground level and employ the use of a stationary scissor lift for getting the stuff up and down.
 
One things for sure, you are going to want to get up there and have a close look at it before you give any sort of price.
 
Yeah i did a ballroom hall once and from the floor the ceiling looked fine but when they set the scaffold up and we got a closer look it was shocking.
 
we done half a domed ceiling in Aberdeen scaffolding was a problem but we used thistle one coat . softer plaster and time 2 work with it there was 4 of us on it and wasnt half the size i was glad when it was finnished. so high up nobody could see the **** ups :-)
 
I have done a couple of vaulted ceilings and if they want a perfect job you should really use a fixed curved runner then just dub out with bonding to get your curve and skim, that way it will be perfect and very simple for you, but as someone said get a good look at it up close first as it may need 10 bags of dubbing out or 80 bags and forget the £15 a m2 the contactor will be on minimum £50 per m2

10 grand to do a ceiling nice I like your style render no point in doing things in halves :RpS_thumbsup:

when we plastered the barrel and domed ceilings at new scotland yard, the ceilings was tacked with british gyprocs glasroc f multi board. it looks a bit plasticy with half crowns indentures for a key. the carpenters had got the domes and barrel in good shape. so we just scrimed and set.
glasroc f comes in 3 different thickness 6mm 1200 x 2400 1200x 3000 10 mm at 2.4 2.7 and 3.00 12.5mm 2.4 2.7 and 3.00 it is expensive but very good to use, as it is lightweight.
we where paid very highly as we where on night shift, we could not start before 10 pm and had to have areas ready for electricians by 6. 30 am
