it dosent, it just creates a course background and you only really use this method to stop it slipping for example maysonary bricks or smooth concreat you wouldnt use it on painted surfaces
Metal Lath may be used as a carrier for plaster or render finishes on backgrounds where it is not possible to achieve a direct bond, i.e. painted surfaces, glazed brick, timber frame, insulation materials and friable masonry. I think that will do the job it's meant for eh, provides a mechanical Key!!!
