Not brilliant and not the worst I’ve seen, you shouldn’t need to sand new plaster before decorating. Looks like they’ve struggled on fresh boards. Hope it’s being coved too.
max, go and have a lie down in a dark room, when you wake up , hopefully you will have recovered from the safe that fell on your head, this has obviously affected your mental capacity and sight, but call the samaritans and a few weeks therapy , and you will be okay,
but just a tad concerned about your photos,
there is no way a plasterer has done this, how can you say some bits are decent, it all needs redone again,by a plasterer this time,
have you done it yourself,
are you an engineer/sparky/fireman, if so that would explain everything,
if not
do not ,repeat do not pay anything, its a fcking disgrace,

Honestly mate at this point I'm willing to accept that as acceptable. As stated above it's not the best but didn't think it was the worst either. I am having coving hence why the ceiling edges aren't neat. I know that a good plasterer would have probably plastered to the edges regardless but he's done what he's done because of the coving going in after.
Out of interest, what are some of the bits that are unacceptable with the 'good' pics? Or just give me a few examples if there's too many to mention. It would definitely help my learning going forwards. To me it doesn't look great however the walls are a lot smoother than they look hence why I'm not being too critical

seriously max, none of it is acceptable, dont understand the point of coming on this forum, asking our opinions when a blind man on a galloping horse could see it is rough, but up to you if you pay him for it

Mate, the light covered with plaster was nothing compared to that shambles ! That's just a total mess !!!
It's not great but lets look at what my options are going forwards...
1. Give him the opportunity to fix his work
2. Get a quote from another plasterer to make good and deduct whatever new plasterer is charging and pay him what's left
3. Anything else?
You've said you won't pay him a penny but in all seriousness, I can't do that as I need to give him the opportunity to make right.

There won’t be any money left to give him if you get a plasterer in to finish his explosion of a mess. I’d suggest no money until it’s sorted and let the main guy finish his mates effort. Tbf it looks like he’s done it with one eye closed, hopping on one leg whilst eating a hot potato. Absolute shambles of a job. Do you mind divulging how much was charged for the job.

Ideally I'd not like him to return as he's clearly incompetent however I can't just withhold money without first giving the main guy (the original guy I spoke to that didn't do the work) the chance to rectify the mess.
I've just spoke to the main guy and thankfully he agrees with me, the work is poor. He is unable to fix the mess due to availability (unless I'm willing to wait but maybe not) and we both agreed it's not a good idea to send the original guy back so he's agreed to my suggestion of getting another plasterer in to make good and deduct his costs from the original bill.

I'd expect it to be done properly, these are not big areas.
Half that. Labour only. I supplied the materials.
A builder I know who also does plastering (wasn't available for this job due to it being too far) said same thing. He says a good plasterer will always do a neat finish at the ceiling, regardless if you're having coving or not. Comes down to pride in their work at the end of the day. He would not be comfortable handing over work like this even if it is getting covered.
This plasterer not only used coving as an excuse, but tried to get out of door lining work because I'd be using acrtitraves! Cutting corners at every opportunity.
