Hi guys, new to the site so bare with me.
Are there such things as socket box protectors or the like? Only ask as I'm sick off plastering all nice then realising there's a gap at top or bottom of socket. I don't fill the boxes in with plaster like a lot of people do but want to have a solid wall all round the switches.

Thanks

I have something I will find you a link later on as I am on the beer

Post it up danny after youve recovered from your 4 shandy's (y) i'd be interested too

cover them with scrim then cut out when youve finished. better than filling with plaster. TBH, it doesnt really matter because once its plastered, its passed onto the electricians and let them horrible fcukers deal with it, sure dont they get paid well for doing nowt! Its part of the building game anyway, you always leave something for the next trade to slate ya because even if ya didnt leave anything, they going to slate you anyway lol

Was mainly as i noticed it at my own new house lol.

never seen them what are they? where do you get them from?

there again I don't know why im asking coz il never buy il just keep on filling them and then accidently on purpose forget to clean them!

Wat happened to just cleaning the sockets with a hand scraper after wen gear is still abit wet? If only had the time to go round with cardboard cut outs etc of sockets and to cover them all..takes about a minute to clean with a scraper if any gaps around sockets scrim the gaps then jobs a gud 1..

Scrim works ok till you get some boarders who cut a foot square for one fecking socket.......:muyenojado: Or they seem to use there teeth to make the hole.......

Just makes me laugh with all these little gadgets etc to keep sockets clean..its very rare ud want to keep a socket all nice and sparkly clean wen ur following sparkys as 80% of time there's tales hanging out so I'm not going round with loads of gadgets trying to help sparkys out I'm getting my slingshot out of van and firing plaster into the sockets not making sure there sparkly clean

@Kitchy i dont care about the sparkies but my work and my customers, if my wall is all nice and flat with clean boxes or the fact on an overskim they can stiil use the switches etc then it makes me look good.
Does a cardboard cut out placed into ur box make your wall nice and flat!? I must be missing sumat here thought the thread was sumat to do with keeping boxes clean..:loco: I am dumb like that

I was refering to the overall look of job really and putting the cardboard in im not fully convinced sometimes but on overskims with a few fibres in the mix it does help to clean them out neatly. I never leave a box not cleaned out just because the sparky has left wires hanging but all my work is in peoples homes so if it was on site maybe yes.

Mayb on a domestic Dan but there's no way ur doing that if ur on a site I've never seen any1 do it in 17 years on a site as there isn't time and FCK doing sparky a favour..sparkys tuck in we clean out jobs a gud 1..there's most wrong with cleaning a socket with a hand scraper after the first trowel wen gear is still wet

Cleaning the sockets is all well and good, but if the socket is 2-3" sunk it's a bit of a job getting it perfectly shaped to the box so there's no gaps when face screwed back.

I'm talking mainly about site work where uve got 100s of sockets and ur on price u havnt got time to go round with cardboard cut outs of sockets not talking about domestics where uve got a couple
