So I want to buy myself a mixer I have just bought a house and have a tad plastering to do, I dont spread for a living so dont want to buy a expensive one. I have been told the evolution is a good mixer in the lower end price range and that other than changing the bushes it would last a lifetime for my sort of usage, was all set to buy one today and screwfix now have a tecmix for an extra 10er its 500w more. I have supplied the links for both please can you guys recommend the best I dont know alot about the makes other than evolution is ok for a small time spread like me.

500w will be very slow to mix. we use a min. 1600w. if you have to purchase tools for the work it may be cheaper to employ a plasterer, get a quote from a local plasterer.

think he means its 500w more power than the evolution which i think is 1100w. evolution should be fine. i bought one at b and q a month or so ago when my old mixer packed in. used it for a day and then took it back and got a refund. the paddle was askew. that was the only excuse i needed. then got another belle. it seemed fine when i used it. the paddle was very short and cheaply made though. dont know anything about the techmix. they were about 90 in b and q inc. the vat. if you know someone old you can get 10% off on a wednesday. or just rip the box or something and ask for a discount.

No it definitely wouldn't be cheaper to pay a plasterer to do a kitchen, bathroom, and few other bits around the house plus I'd like to own one for future projects. thanks jurec if you havent heard of tecmix I think evolution would be a safer bet!

no problem. i dont know about techmix but they might be fine. screwfix used to do one called sparky or something. id buy form screwfix, b and q or similar rather than ebay. if it breaks and you have the receipt you can just take it back. aldi used to do one for about fifty quid with a three year guarantee. you cant go wrong if its just for domestic use.

it might be cheaper to pay a plasterer if you weigh up how long it might take you to do a room. maybe sand it down in places, no offence, but almost certain. i dont know what your job is but if you take three days of your daily wage would that cover the plasterer? maybe you're gonna do it in your holiday, i dont know. some local colleges offer free or cheap introductory courses to plastering to DIY's

I done a plastering course at college for a year when i was 18, only 2 days a week but I was offered a good paying pipefitting job not long after I passed out so iv been doing that since. Never got enough work to get real on site experience but im confident doing a wall, maybe not a ceiling or 'big' wall. Now I have my own place im looking forward to doing a bit again, No pressure. They have a belle on screwfix for 160 I am tempted but seems silly spending that much with all the rest of the house expenses.

the belle 1600 is a great mixer. last one i had the trigger used to stick sometimes. you'll be more confident after the first wall or two. ceilings are easy. just a a big panel above you. no beads or cheeks or anything to mess about with. you'll be fine

If your only mixing enough stuff for yourself, as mentioned above, stick a paddle on a drill, sds would be a luxury. :as a schoolboy, i used to mix carlite in pails(no gorilla pails, no baths) sometimes for 2 men at weekends, using a bit of 4x2 timber (pre chinese power tool d says), with no problems once I'd learned the ropes, failing that get a plasterer in

I bought a evolution 1100w mixer as a stand in been using it for months now I just bought a new neg padle as the one supplied was pants great for up to two bag mixes

I bought the tecmix mixer for twenty quid off gumtree, used it a few times and seems like a good mixer.
