Couple of interesting conversations this week with customers who want rendering in bristol.

They live in standard terraces with victorian features, bath stone around windows/doors etc, have received quotes form EWI installers, one also had funding through green deal, both don't want to go ahead with insulation because they were told the features would have to go for 100% insulation coverage.

They are opting for mono instead.

All the customers I've spoken to so far are not happy about losing these features, so whats the solution? The council can't make people have it done can they?

Reinstate the features.

So they wont have ewi because funding not 100 percent but will pay for mono? How dods that wnqk. Surely they claim their grant.then top up to make up the features

Guy I spoke to today was quoted £9500 for front and back of terrace EWI going over the old (2 quotes same price), that does not include reinstating the features. He was offered £3500 through green deal.

Not sure how much it would be to reinstate the features but i think it would look very odd insulation then stone features on top when either side is not being done.

This is not so much about cost its more about the way it looks

You can re install the features after the insulation. They are eps also obviousley not original but look great. In fact i think goody has some work pics on here with some

Im hearing june the rates on funding will be out. For some reason the eco scheme seem to think the current rates are 100 percent. Depending if gas or elec, and depending on u.values.

I'm interested it getting into this but can't see how the average homeowner is going to make up the shortfall of £6000 on a standard 2 up 2 down terrace.

Beddy how can you call yourself a plasterer?? not one rendering photo in your whole portfolio!! Anyone can skim ;)

Because I havent done any externals in the last 2 years worth taking pics of. Got a nice one coming up in about 2 months that ill take some pics of just for you

Nice one Beddy look forward to seeing them, rest of your work looks quality. I'd appreciate if you would delete the link above as I have done for you.

Im sure greendeal is goverment pays half, customer pays half through sauings on their bills. Seading up on it now

Apparently its to do with how efficient your property is already as to the amount you receive. How it's measured I'm not sure but the guy I spoke to said initially he had an EPC.

it's a minefield at the minute , but you do need an EPC to determine wether you qualify for funding, there are even brokerages where you can buy and sell your carbon units, hearing some nightmare stories at the min

Yeah it depends on the u.values.the manufacturer can supply those. U get a starting figure, then depending on the type of house.gas or electric, goes up or down. You need an epc aefore and after

Green deal and Eco is still abut of a minefield at the moment but we understand fully funded ewi work should be possible very shortly under Eco.

Back to the original post, Eco guidelines state that only a minimum of 50% of the external wall area has to be done for EWI to count as a "funded measure". But so far this year it's unlikely that EWI would be fully funded unless combined with other measures and houses were off mains gas etc.

Green deal is a way of borrowing money to pay for energy efficiency improvements as somebody said, but it seems to have been very slow to get started and not very straight forward. We just got our first green deal enquiry last week but it was from the customer directly and we understand that the green deal assessor should be involved, but they aren't!

Some EPC's can be doctored to influence the GD outcome - a lot depends on the relationship between provider, installer and assessor - 'mutually beneficial is a phrase I'm hearing a lot lately!
