can any on recommend the best ewi course to do ? i have been thinking either webber or rockwall. suggestions would be highly appreciated !

you can do applicator training with a manufacturer and they may or may not approve you. Otherwise like systems says you can try nvq and get proper qual - its usually free if you dont have another nvq or equal quali, you can get on general sites without it but you wont get on green deal sites without it if you want to fit insulation render.

I also hear that they may be considering nvq plastering for this. possibly lowering the criteria for GD installers now, thats if the gov. dont scrap it all together since chris hune resigned

i have my nvq level 2 in plastering , i have applied webber and krend before , but im also looking to install the boards aswel! where would the courses be held? i live in n wales, but willing to travel .

if youve applied with weber and k rend before, what are you on about contacting them again, did they turn you away or what?

I too would be interested in ewi nvq,ive used tons of mono and krend.and odd projects with sto and for my sins webber thincoats.but not insulate

fixing insulation in alot of firms is getting done by labourers who dont care. the trade is being turned into a production line. some firms up ere have labs beading, other lads spraying and labs scraping. nobody gives a flying because the next guy will sort it scenario kicks in - no pride in the finished product.

only in wet trades do you get this where any straggler can walk in the door and say "i can do that" and bam your on the render.

just imagine walking into a joinery shop and not being able to prove a skill and a level of quality ? they would not give you a job, simple.
imagine one man measuring the skirts and marking em, then some other lad cutting em then some other lad fixing em ? ? ? madness it would never happen because they know the quality will suffer. Why then are they turning render into a production line when it requires a skilled tradesman from start to end ? ?

Rant over

plasterjfe that is more than true becoming like dominos pizza counter, one gives u the price, one knocks up, one lays base, one tops and the other picks the fluff out his belly button. madness.

i wouldnt dream of starting a job where i dont know the system, why should others

Well I've got my nvq2's in plastering(eventually lol) and ewi and am approved for Rockwool and alsecco but breaking into green deal application... Well that's another matter. Kinda hoping parex team up with some local merchants and become a small provider to keep us little folk in the loop!

I also want to gain a qauli for boarding so would be very interested in a course, as you can tell by the name I'm no spring chicken which is probably why I want to do it the right way,I live in south wales but am willing to travel, any information on this would really be apprciated, don't really want to do the rendering side of this as I feel I'm a bit long in the tooth. Many thanks in advance.

you will have to jump about abit just doing the boarding

gangs tend to what to do the boarding themselfs, then they can split the metreage price into a third, third for boarding, third for scriming and a third for dashing then theres no arguements about someone doing all the light easy work and someone having to toll their nuts off and also the site where on now all the boardings been done in front of us,so for the last 4 weeks when the weathers been to cold to spread first thing,we,ve been at home when we could of boarded up till the tempreture got high enough then gone rendering for a few hours, also if you do the lot you leave it how you want it and are not forever going round site getting someone back to square revels up,so if i was you i,d just say you can do the lot and you,ll have more chance of getting work.

Weber in Bedfordshire and SAS in Exeter have courses. £150-180. You do not get an NVQ though and you are going to need it.

In my opinion we should be doing everything, the boarding, thin coat and finish or nothing. We have only ourselves to blame for tolerating boarders and beaders etc. I wouldn't stand for it. Bad boarders then the following men blame the previous.

If we are not careful this trade will become semi skilled.

I went on an installation course with Rockwool 3 years ago when I worked for a local Housing association. Would be interested in getting an NVQ, Where to go?
