It was good. One more rub after with the steel and it came up a treat! I do like it and the missis is gonna buy me one for me birthday

With the speedskim and plastic trowels is water not used and do you finish with them or a steal trowel.I have only heard of these products this week.
 
right boys thought id pop over for a chat I brought the refina 1 metre spatula and the 16 inch s*p*r*lex skimming trowel used for a few months now I apply 2 coats of skim over tapered boards flatten twice with the spatula and finish with the trowel using absolutely no water only on the corners what a finish brill . but slight problem just noticed after painter been in with his spray gun (paint like piss lol )I can see the joints when painted not on all walls but some my heart sank to me these blades are to soft and springy wont take any bumps of like the normal trowels or fill in any hollows ie joints. you cant notice them till there painted so idealy you need to skim on boards with out tapered edges then should be fine

How about you fill your tapered joins a few hours before? i.e when you doing the ceilings and some left over then you should have no worries.:RpS_thumbup:
 
yup just started doing that today it should do the trick if I can cure this problem bobs your uncle lol saves so much time doing 3 gauges a day 4 bags a mix me and the lad normaly were busting a gut now piece of piss hardest thing is putting it on then I go round with the spatula on all walls the lad comes behind doing the corners with the trowel happy days:RpS_thumbup:
 
Wtf is happening to this trade you do it right you dont need to flatten even in this hot weather
 
Even though i use a plazzi myself, I have seen some shocking applications with spats, plazzis etc. We did a block of flats last year and another gang were doing a floor below us. I popped down for a little nose and watched them lay on. one lad was chucking it on so rough you wouldnt believe, and another following flattening with a spat. Gloating at their coverage (probably no more than a dozen metres more than us a day, both 2 and 1 teams) read someone on here say "first coat flat, second coat flatter" thats the way IMO
 
listen lads iv been a plasterer for 35years only been used to the trowel thought id try the new in things trial and error you know
 
I've used spats n speed skims since they were out. We still close in with trowel to make sure it's proper flat. Had few teething probs at first. Looked ace but few imperfections when painted. Speed skims save us time. Can flatten 3-4 bags in no time.
 
All depends on the job which tool to use.

If it's nice board work I'll get it on with the trowel and do all the rest with the 600 spat.
Over artex its speedskim, trowel then plazzy to finish.
Re-skims are generally the same.
Flat render = speedskim.
Mono too.
 
Well I've been using the speedskim for a couple of months now and I've also started to use the speedskim spat for the past week or so and a plaza refina to try and look after my old bones and aching joints. Got to say I've found the whole process a lot easier to complete and I've been very impressed with the quality of the finish I am producing.

I'm not saying that this is the right and correct method of doing things and it might change over the coming weeks/months but for now I do the following.
Scratch on the 1st coat & flatten off straight away with the speedskim
Lay down straight after and flatten straight away with speedskim.
Give it a few minutes and use the speedskim spat
Sort out my angles and give it a flat trowel
Give it a few minutes and then get the plazi out

Keep the water down to a minimum is the best way that I've found so far.

Using a 600mm spat from speedskim which I am finding really good with a pole but I am expecting the 1200mm this week which, if it is anywhere near as good as the 600 should make life even easier.

Yes... it looks pretty good... I have not used it enough to warrant an opinion yet and to be honest I am notna lover of spats in general so my opinion may not even be valid :-)

I decided to time myself today when I started flattening a wall off, using a 1800 speedskim on a wall of 2.5m high and 3.4m long it took me 1 1/2 minutes on the 1st coat and 2 1/2 minutes on the 2nd coat and that included cleaning them.

Why not just put one fat coat on and save yourself more time?
 
Always 2 coat been doing that for 35 yrs now and never let me down, then again I have always flattened off after each coat as pulled in a bit but it appears that I might have been doing it wrong. I just find that flattening a wall off in that amount of time has got to be worth looking at, or should I say IMHO it has.
