just a thought on i've seen a lot of plasterers using this fibre mesh with this krend and parex stuff and wondering if any of you use it with normal sand and cement and could it stop hairline cracks.

I used it on a render job in january with fibres added too, it can only help, with movement etc

It won't stop cracking it just adds strength to the coat you put it in

cheers think ill give it a go, would you do all of the wall or only stress points e.g above windows and doors

I do all the wall, but its personal choice...

I would expect to use thirty between waste and use. But I don't do much of it to be honest

Depends on the size off the aggregate and wether your using a colour receiver, but with a 3-9mm agg about 3 to 4 m2 if you use a catch tray

Why would you use the mesh in ordinary render ? it just would not' occur to me ! been two coat rendering for years about 18 mm thick, modified renders are one coat and on average 6mm so are needed ....

I don't really agree Dave.
On one particular house type on a big site I did there was a small triangle of render on timber that had to be worked in flush with the main block wall. No matter how I papered and wired this triangle it always ended up with a fine crack down the join. I then decided to add some fibre mesh into the render as well as the paper and wire and they never cracked again.

Mesh is used in Monocouche though gooner which isn't a thin coat system is it.
Why not try to improve the methods and materials used within S&C render?
Fibres and mesh can only help and it wouldn't occur to me to do any S&C render without using these.

I tried bedding in some Krend mesh in sc scratch coat an found it a bit of a trauma getting it to lay right in mono I've found it easier because of the makeup of it
But saying that I was prolly doin it wrong

i'am not saying it's a bad thing, do what you want Andy & good luck to you , but i can't see the point of messing with something that is not broken , mesh is great in modified renders and that is where it will stay with me !!,i do loads of traditional render that has served the purpose great for years ..........
