How did you get on with the bullnose mate.

Not bad considering how shite the plaster was, first time Iv done a big radius like that, I'll take some pics tomorrow I'm back there again skimming the dining room. We should all get the batch no off the bags of dodgy plaster and send them to bg, we deserve some sort of compo

Was you skimming over plasterboard?

But no it was an over skim onto bare plaster which I pva'd twice pissy and once a strong 1:1 mix

Isn't it funny, I had exactly this almost a year ago, mid April last year.

Over skim and every single bag went off quick time. It absolutely stunk as well like chemically smell.

I used the pva I always use and was skimming a room in a house where I done loads of skimming before. I lost 2 sets to that shite and stopped mixing the 3rd one because it started smelling.

The walls I managed to lay on and trowel all ended up crazing then basically crumbling off.

I emailed BG with pictures and info on bags but never herd nothing back.

I ended up re skimming the room the next day with some muti finish from a small merchants round the corner from were i was working and never had one problem.

You should be getting hold of a rep and they will sort it. Keep some of the gear and they will test it, I've been compensated from a bad batch recently.

I've had this recently too, in the north west too

We got our gear from selco, tried wickes for the next job and it was fine

Got numbers off 1 of the dodgy bags I'm using another from the same batch this morning it's exactly the same

These are the offending bags. Bought from Travis Perkins worksop

It really is a fecking mess.
They seem to chop and change the quality monthly.
I went from using Multi to Ultra and now onto Carlite.
Multi just went to crap , 50 mins working time and 3 hours to set, wasnt cutting , tiger lines and peeling.
Ultra was flying along for a couple of years but its all over the place now , 1.5 hour set on one bag to 3.5 hours the next, no cut and the same peeling and tiger lines that Multi was doing.
I stopped using carlite years ago yet now it feels like multi from 5 years ago loads of working time yet sets in about 2.5 hours and cuts lovely , could get away with 2 trowels its that good , ive just been giving it a light flexi as its turning and coming out perfect.
You just have to keep swapping around every 6 months as they quality changes so much.

Multi down my way lately is hard to knock up its pissy in bucket add handful and goes to stiff add water to get what I think is right consistency and then it's like play doe as it's going off in bucket getting that water separating thing ain't had it for ages but I haven't changed way I've always mixed up just seems real effort at min, and as a few of you know I don't exactly do loads of meters a day I'm sure a while back @roryston mentioned he had a few batches that were sud like when cleaning whisk off ect, it's clear there is a problem yet the generic bullshit comes out and never gets answered, met a plasterer on job im on at min he was in a flap cos way the finish been drying had to tell him we all discussed that a year ago but not to worry looks alright when painted

Yeah had some before and when cleaning the whisk off in the water it was going bubbly as hell like washing up liquid was added, I believe that same batch of gear was going off in the bucket and stinking like chemically. Ive had loads of shite bags over the past 2 years. Ive had mixes separate in the bucket like rising water to the top when settling, ive had random gritty patches, dark patches, lumps of crap, flash sets, slow sets etc.

Ive always used the same techniques that I adopted from my previous boss who been in the game 30 years so I it's not that although whenever I do get a problem I stand there asking myself what I done wrong. ive always used good quality pva when needed, prepared properly, same whisk for 5 years, clean water, clean buckets, windows closed etc, ive skimmed with multi on pretty much every job ive done and I can honestly say in my opinion no two batches are the same, start of this week pissy and tearing end of this week absolutely lovley to use.
