Exactly. Doing loads of metres and not having a labourer have become the norm.
I can remember the very first time my old man left me to work on site on my own. He said, "if you can do the equivalent of floating and setting a ten by ten room in a day you'll make good money".

Exactly!
A lot of guys don't realise how much notice those near the top take of what the normal tradesmen are earning.
Prices aren't dictated by the slowest, lowest earners in a trade but by the fastest, highest earners.
I've been there where you turn up to do a house and the price has been dropped since the last one. So we just worked harder, got the house done quicker and earned the same. Next house, price dropped again, and again the one after, then I realised that we were just cutting our own throats and told them we wouldn't be coming back. They said "but you're still earning good money" and I replied "but we're having to work our nuts off to earn the same money, and we're not doing it anymore".
What I've just recounted, although a personal experience, is exactly what the trade as a whole has done to itself.
I don't blame @algeeman or anyone like him personally, and I hope that it doesn't come across that I do, but while there are guys (and @JessThePlasterer ) willing to smash massive metres out week after week, year after year, rates won't go up as they should.
I can assure you I don’t smash massive metres out anything near @algeeman ! :birra:

I agree we should all be paid more for the hardest job on site. Site and domestic... from what I’ve gleaned, domestic is better money for the likes of me. If you’re the likes of algee than site is better. It’s all relative. On site you get into your routine and smash it out and if you’re good take home a decent wage to your family. On domestic you have a lot of prep generally before you get a skim mix on... all relative. But in any event there should be a legal minimum that spreads should charge! Out with the shite!

We on domestic us our brain more than site lads site lads allway look brain dead to me like if you say 2+2=6 derrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr dume c**ts

Mate it’s nothing personal trust me but Plastering prices need to increase weather its m2 rate or day rate, they need to be driven up because it’s total b*ll***s what a spread earns compared to other trades that are standing around with their fingers up their arses! f**k me you’re even frowned upon now if you want to charge for a labourer! How the f**k did that happen to our trade! Probably some dopey c**t saying I’ll knock it up myself for less money!! Then everyone is expected to do the same!!
Can't take the pride out then expect top dolla.

It's funny as alot of spreads call them self lowest of low on site etc, andyg for example.

But on domestic I've had endless compliments and respect from customers about the trade being highly skilled/black art etc. I've had two very wealthy blokes father and son sit and watch me skim in ore. He said its a joy to watch. I said it's not a joy to do. He said yeah but out of us 3 you're the only one who can do it. (These two did much of their own worl)

Also had customers tell me they feel
Robbed after paying sparks and gas thousands for 2 half days. But with plastering they see they really are paying for a skil and transformation.
once had a old dear praising me and said i must take great pride in my work. Told her i hate it from min i get in van till min i get out. Though fell back in love with it lately got nice balance with home life and work. Dont think i make as much as most on here but i.m pretty sure i dont work as hard and still o ok
