Garden Wall Rendering

Hi Guys,

I’ve got a landscaping company doing my garden and have just had the garden wall rendered, which I’m not very happy with.

I’m after some expert advice as to what’s gone wrong, the finishing looks poor and they’ve also used white plastic beading that looks cheap. Am I being picky, or is this acceptable?

Was the quality poorer than the landscapers examples of previous jobs that you viewed before contracting him

And watch out for rapidly expanding render firms

Mate I rarely comment to knock other peoples work but that's a disgrace by anyone's standards

Thanks Zombie, I won’t be sharing these comments with the contractor. I’m just after a bit of knowledge so I can get it sorted. 90% of it looks okay, it’s just the finishing that’s poor, which I’m hoping can be patched?

Will stand out like a sore thumb if you patch it, meant to be done right first time.

The beading is to a poor standard but being a garden wall that too will have been built all wrong for a render so this is just the start of your problems.

I stopped doing garden walls, not worth the hassle when the phone rings after the first winter.

No tanking or drainage in those beds? Sorry to say but there are no experts on this job. And that rendering is diabolical. Problem is landscape gardeners are the tightest of the trades...they either bodge the rendering themselves or try to get someone in and pay them peanuts. The render will pop off after the first winter or you maybe lucky and it will hold out for a while with horrible staining.

Freed is right, plus, step slabs look like their edge is flush with the blocks so the run off will try to go behind the render, freeze and blow it off.

Agree, with the block work, it's as bad as the render, the bond is bad and the perps are all over, joints arnt filled in properly either. Tut tut think you need to get some Indians in.

Would you use ss on a mono job?
That true
Point is: poor workmanship is crap, any materials look good if done right!
I’m more a fan of metal beads as they take a knock and sand and cement fan but that is because I see so many modern bagged render jobs thrown on and the detail is often poor Makes me shudder

Hi all,
I’ve just joined this forum and been reading all the posts Including this one about K rendering garden walls.
Please see the attached picture of my 2 year and counting project ‍♂ I’ve just booked a renderer for 4 week’s time and am getting nervous about rendering down to ground level. Is that ok or should I put stop beads above the ground level? Thinking of applying Weber Pral MF.

The ‘ground’ in this project will be different forms in some areas it will be porcelain slabs that are sloped away from the walls and sealed with grout. We also have a resin bound path that will go up to some of the walls Again slopes away from the walls and also some soil/planting areas. I have tried to do everything with longevity in mind so all the retaining walls have been painted with 2 coats of RIW heaviseal liquid DPM and also have a sheet of plastic DPM membrane behind them to stop the moisture coming through the back. There is also 110mm drainage pipes running behind all the walls to take away any water build up to the house rain water drainage system.
Any advice would be appreciated so I don’t mess this up at the last hurdle!
Thanks
Paul

No excuse for that, just poor workmanship. Mono no good on garden walls, it’s filthy In 12 months anyway so thatl look terrible within 3 months. Silicone personally. Or just ocr but then got the paint to maintain
