Just pissed of with myself because am such a nob that i have under priced myself for a foreigner that ive been doing. got one more day left 2moro .it should of took me 5 days it will now be eight days. heavy artex turned ceilings and the height was high. and to make top it off the customer was driving me that mad because he was such a tight tw@t i could'nt help but have these really bad thoughts of me smashing his head. oh forgot to say ive been working for a firm for a while now so i just did'nt gauge the job in hand. feel good ive got that out me system.x
 
if u guys are overboarding do u still pva the artex ? Just wondering cos i reckon it makes the ceiling more rigid

i do that on a reg basis lol ether under price my self or take longer than should cos thing go wrong etc i normally charge day rate now instead of price then talk some major bull when things go tits up lol
 
It's not that , we all know the price we should charge but in truth and in the real world of self employed to many factors come into play. WE all have to suck it up , look at RB He has taking a £3k hit.
 
dnt bother with pva on the ceilin just use pritt stick then board it orrr blobs of pre chewed bubbly gum on the back of the boards and stick them up
 
I like to staple bubblewrap to Artexed ceilings before overboarding. When the board is fixed, the pointy bits make the bubbles pop and the non pointy bits don't, so the end result is a perfectly flat ceiling. Simples, and you don't get covered in PVA or scrapey bits either.
 
Thanks henry. No need 2 b rude pal. I just thought that the pva might help stick the plasterboard in between the wood joists
 
I did a job earlier this year and my mate priced it without me as i had a bad back at the time but he assured me he put a good price in and told me he had allowed about a week and it was a bit of sand and cement about 10m2 and about 25 bags of multi well to cut a long story short it took 45 bags of multi and 2 ton of sand and cement and we were there nearly 3 weeks lol a bit of a loss on that one.
 
I just left as a comfort spoon fed lad from old firm and a lad asked me to give him a hand he priced it at 1500 he goes yeah well earn money I priced it at 4500 because I could be bothered to measure it and we got through and earnt money and I ripped him off a bit :-)

I was the one with the bad back and he did the job as well plus it was his f**k up not mine so he is still getting grief from me now.
 
you have to be careful when scrapeing artex as up until 1984 asbestos was used in artex, so alway wear protective gear,and if possible pva and skim over only.most ceilings in houses over 25 years old will probably have asbestos in the artex.
i used to always scrape them back then pva and skim , but now i am more wary of the fact asbestos maybe in the cieling, i try not to scrape it at all.

Gordo it's true better safe than sorry, I was told on an asbestos course the chances of death from injesting a small amount of artex from scraping an artex ceiling would be very slim its the least dangerous form of asbestos and the exposure is very low you have to bear in mind there are still people alive who used to tank huge cylinders with their hands day in day out using blue and brown

think you may be wrong on that score, just done a house where there was artexed cielings, was an insurance job after a leak, insurers would'nt let me touch it until the specialists had been in and checked it out, they came took samples and the family had to be put up in a hotel while the specialists took the cieling down. just my advice to you all, up to you if you want to chance it.
 
i thought building control had down graded the threat of asbestos in artex to "thiers so little in it that you would have to be making your self artex sandwiches for it to harm you" obviously not in those words.
i dnt like pva'in artex anymore i usually wba it just cos last year i had a chunk come down on me whilst i was troweling up fresh plaster over the top and when i checked the back side of the artex it was all wet and mushy so it had emulsified again:RpS_cursing:

But that's like filling in your own cheques mate........I've had a few asbestos checks done and they have all come back worded in such a way as to make you/the customer terrified, but when you look into it, the findings are usually of the lowest threat to health and whilst not 100% hazard-free there is fkall to stop you removing the materials yourself and charging the punter a similar fee to the doom-mongers :RpS_thumbup:
