I put a bit of waterproofer in both coats
Because Kirk makes loads of YouTube videos doesn't mean he's right.
I put waterproofer in my scratch coat and I defy you to separate my top coat from the scratch.
What waterproofer do you use? Some on here are saying not to put it in the top coat if using lime in the mix? This is the way to do it...always used a water vapour permeable waterproofer 4-1 both coats been back to alot of jobs I did 10 years ago...still perfect today. Use around half the dose in top coat.

Hydroscopic I think they call it.From the tub 'Does not inhibit vapour transfer.'
close, but no cigar.Hydroscopic I think they call it.
Or a Printed shirt, lol.close, but no cigar.
Technically Kirk is right. But u won't have a problem if u have waterproof in the scratch coat. I personally don't like waterproofer as it can make the finish not as strong.Wondered about the comments from Kirk. See the copied youtube comments below.
Would they use different sand/cement in Down Under.
FIXIT
we put waterproofer in the first coat but not the 2nd coat

Good evening fix it, I'd stop doing that, if you waterproof the first coat you have sealed it, In order for the second coat to adhere it need to adhere by suction or what we call a mechanical bond, you need a porous first coat that you make moist with water to accept the second coat which is wet. If you waterproof the first coat, the second coat will not adhere forever unless you apply a bonding agent over the first coat as it's now sealed. How does it not make it waterproof if it stops the rain from penetrating the plasterU are wrong @essexandy do your research. Waterproof is a sealer. There is water in your mix. Better to only have it in your top coat. Even gypsum say not to skim on to render that has waterproof in it. And most ocr readers don't use waterproof In them. Just because u do it with waterproof don't make it right. Iv used it myself in scratch coat and had no problems. But it's not as good as plasticiser. And u should not use waterproof if u put lime in your mix.
Plus waterproof doesn't even make the render waterproof so it's pointless anyway.
How does it not make it waterproof if it stops the rain from penetrating the plaster
I thought waterproofer was some silicate something or other that swells and block ingress of water so it only slows itBecause it doesn't it only shows it down. If it rains long enough it will penetrate it.
