Hello everyone,

I need some advice on rendering and if it is suitable for this time of year? I live in a 1920s semi and the pointing is shocking, in addition to the brickwork looking really weathered (well knackered really!). I have decided that the best way forward both cosmetically and to stop the leaks, is to have the house rendered. I really like the coloured rendering and I have heard some good reviews about the K-Rend silicone FT stuff, because a) I don't have to faff about with painting and upkeep to the same degree and b) I like the fact that it's more resilient and it lets the house breathe. Is K-Rend the only brand that offers all of this and would this type of render be suitable to apply at this time of year? I worry a lot as a house up the road from me had rendering done earlier in the year (and then promptly sold up!) and it's all cracked already and looks awful. It's such an expensive job, I want to make sure that I have it done at the right time and use the right stuff. I live in West Yorkshire and I'd really like to know what the average price is per sq m in my neck of the woods. If anyone wants to give me a free quote, that would be brill!

Thanks in advance guys,

L

yes its fine this time of year,
nope there are umpteen render manufactorers on the market parex, weber, marmorit etc , have a look at there websites.
look into different types of render ie monocouche[through coloured] or acrylic renders. etc.
again yes its fine this time of year.
if the appication is done right it will last a lifetime, shouldnt crack if its been render to spec.

im based on the North/ West yorkshire border, but we arent taking any more work on at present due to be being fully booked until spring now. but theres another member called warrior on here, whom im sure will be along soon that may be able to help.

As Rich said it's still ok to render at present (well apart from all the rain) even though it's only a small job it's gonna be a month at least before I could do anything, if you wish to have a chat click on the link below and give me a bell or drop me an e-mail and I will respond.
Regards
Paul

Lol, loving your banter! I am about 2 minutes from Jx 27 of the M62 - near the big retail park and Showcase cinema. Warrior, I'll be in touch shortly. :) It really is a little job - we just want to do 2 walls at the moment, which are the most exposed, due to cost reasons. I'm a bit scared because we had a man come out tonight (price TBC) who went 'these systems, they're very expensive - make sure you're sitting down when I phone you with a price...' Yikes!!!

Yeah, Birstall. :) Why, has spread got a rep for being a bit pricey?! Does he do the chin rub and the sharp sucking in of breath thing? If so, then yes, it was totally him!!

I'm just up the road from you but we're busy for the next few months and I wont be taking any more rendering on till the spring. You're in the right place to get sorted though.:RpS_thumbup:

Hi OWLS you sound like a man who knows what he's talking about, I live in London and i want take off the cracked render on my house and replace it with a render with the paint already in it, it will be white paint, i will be getting a plasterer in to do the job could you give me guidence so that the job is done right,i e he hacks old plaster off hackes out joints in brickwork wets brickwork with water paints brickwork with adhesive, what strenght puts on first scratch coat then 2nd scratch coat then finish coat. is that how it should be rendered to specification or am iway off the mark TOM

why has your render cracked? there may be other problems. it is best to paint the render white rather then trying to colour the render. it is impossible to give a spec. with out looking at the property.
