Gonna give a refina spat on a pole a go. For those of you that have em or have used them should i get 32" or 24"

Obviously 32" good on big lids but 24" more flexible as can use them on smaller lids.

WOuld like to get competant at using them on walls as well

how many lids you get smaller than 32"?

i'd have the biggest mofo i could get my hands on otherwise whats the point of a spat?

then again, if the ceiling aint remotely flat, youd be better off with a trowel?

have the 24 and when youvre knocked out 10 ceilings a day for three weeks youll be able to afford the 32.. :RpS_thumbup:

Pissed .And at a guess id say 24".Although you could buy both as i beleive most the cost is in the pole ?
Also id take into consideration on most ceilings youl be doing on domestic there unnessasry, ideally there for larger areas without chimney breasts, coving, ceilings roses to deal with. What if you dink the celing with the spat or have a miss?Youl have to go back on ur stilt or hop up and put a bit of finnish in there and carry on again. Also those spats look very flimsy to me i dont think theyd last long unless you really look after ur kit well which often aint possible with bags of gear and tools everywhere.
Also its another gadget you got be washing and keeping clean!!
Id say get the spats without the pole see how you go with them and if alls good buy the pole at a later date or you could be wasting your dosh.

Got both the 24 and 32 plus the pole and they are worth buying if you do a lot of ceilings. Can be used on walls as well of course.Once you get used to using them they do save time and you can get a good finish with them.

Just get the 4 foot and a pole if you want

You must be built like an ox spunky. Largest size too big for me. To much walking up and down with a 40 inch spat above my head = too much shoulder ache.Windy buys one and it sits in the shed and stays there.

ordered 600mm and pole £98 all in on ebay.

will use it on my own buy to let houses for first few times.:RpS_thumbup:

If u use it on walls is process

first coat
Spat
2nd coat
spat
dry trowel
wet trowel
cross

why bother using it if your not going to use it to trowel up with, if your only using it to flatten it seems like a lot of money and then you still gotta have the room decked or use stilts so will you really need the pole, ive used a 24 inch normal spat to flatten off occasionally but it only cost me 20 quid, a hundred quid seems pricey if only for flattening off, im sure you can trowel up with the refina type ones....if the lid is flat.

like i said earlier mate why you need the pole?Ok if ur doing a 100m2 ceiling and one is laying on and one it flattening and polishing behind then fair enough, but for the average 20m2 ceiling why bother ?A total waste, you wont use it and prob be afraid to use it for weeks and it will sit there rusting!!!!
The time involved in cleaning this 32 inch monster and repairing after you dinked the ceiling with it ( cus in the real world that happens from time to time ) wont save you any time.

800CM ONE IS BEST.

lay on
SPAT
layon
Spat
spat
sapt
and sapt maybe a check around the edges?

job done

if but who if.. just buy one when you can bag 2 large ceilings on in one set and still not get out of first gear you know your making money.

plasterers never want to spent on kit..Y?

Surely there must me the odd miss or hollow when u spat. How do deal with that ? Also do u spat i'n one direction or do u need to go i'n different directions for each swipe. I agree most plastering tools r cheap i can always sell it on eBay and get 70% of ny cash back bit i think it will be a good bit of kit

dont know if this just makes me sh**e but im not even happy troweling up with an 18" trowel! as hard to pick off misses, hollows etc and more importantly apply the correct pressure on reskims at most ill trowel up on 13" even then normaly drop down to an 11" for wet trowel etc.

Spats are only any good if there used once 2nd coat of skim has been rubbed up with a sponge, but as most of you dereks !!! wont know how or when to sponge up your 2nd coat of skim you aint got a chance in gettin a complete flat finish with no water marks or hollow spots. You mongs that think a big long spat will save you time and give you a better finish are wrong!! untill you understand the sponging process stick to your trowel.

To be honest I really do think he's a nice guy, I mean he hasn't bothered wasting our time with a lengthy introduction instead he's got straight down to sharing some of his clearly superior knowledge with all us dereks. Good on you John.
