I think most of the houses built in the '60s and '70s in Birmingham have that on the ceilings. I guess it pre-dates homes under the hammer and grand designs, so there was probably an issue of a DIY magazine that did an "Abigail's party" edition or something and everyone went nuts with artex. :rolleyes)

yep.. looks like hes tried to replicate something like '' basket and flowers '' and not had a fukin clue what hes doing..lol if Im see a bag of like that,,, Im always aware the lot will be wrong.. overboard it...

we call that pattern the transport cafe look.
you always know you are in for a overboard and skim when you tell that to the customer.

I plastered a hallway and stairwell last weekend with the thickest artex I have ever seen all over the walls. When I was doing the stairwell I had a set of ladders with a scaffold board going across and I was half way through the first set and I thought why the **** am I doing this ****!

Gone over tonnes of that style thank god for the artex boom years ago made loads a money! Over years pitty i spent it all :RpS_scared:

skimmed one of these last week no need to scrape just bonding in the first coat quite nice and easy to do actually only thing was half way through i came down with sinusitis and by the end of the set i was liturally crawing across the floor haha

I will overboard it :-) Well I wont the chippy will :-) I am actually just tagging along to give him a hand on it as its in his house :-)

Thought all artex was covered up by now but its a stunning bad artex ceiling :D

like i said bonding through the first coat it covers a treat you dont even realise its artex really

my face?? where did you see it on here haha, and no mate ive not worked for them.
you dont mean my avatar pic at the side of this comment do ya cos thats not me

My understudy (nisus) has just asked me what pattern it was. The correct name is hook & line. Its poorly done and the texturer has used a rose comb to finish around the centre light as its nigh on impossible to get it perfect :-D

Thank you oh Goldcomb master :RpS_cool:

That **** that looks like bark is the best im sure artexers used to turn up pissed and use a gardeners rake!:RpS_scared:

The bark effect was very easy to do. A smooth plastic roller with a few elastic bands wrapped around it about an inch apart, the full length of the roller. Apply the artex to the wall and pull the roller from ceiling to skirting. Hey presto!!! Bark effect

That sounds a bit RUFF.

Not a fan of artex at all, dont like the look of it or skimming it but a few years ago i did a through lounge and someone had actually drew a full scene in it. There was clouds and cherubs flying around it was actually stunning. Only one i've ever seen like it and seemed a shame to cover it.

Anyone ever seen similar?

No but skimmed a artex ceiling for my mates brother (who was a bit of a tool) and thought it would be funny to draw something in the bonding/multi scratch coat then asked him what he thought of my new pattern he didn't seem that keen on it so i flattened it laid it in finished and the jobs a good one, pops round the next day pick up some dough his missus is savage walk in the lounge, his kids are on the settee watching the Simpsons with a massive knob and bolloxs grinning through as the different thicknesses were drying at different rates.
oops ill be going now.

i actually did this exact thing the other day hah, its uncanny the fella that was working with me was floating a wall out and one of the hollows was the perfect shape of knob and bollywollocks so i outlined it and drew on a bellend, it also showed through the finish coat the next day haha, i feel i kept it civilized though i left off the spunk squirts
