There are. But I'm not sure what could be said from the side of the guy who did the tiling that would make any difference, especially seeing as the guy in charge of the whole job has agreed that he didn't do an acceptable job on the tiling and is paying out of his own pocket for new tiles and for the job to be redone. I doubt he'd do that if it wasn't necessary.
let them get on with the job! if its not up to scratch when finished hold off on payment till its correct. you stated you are not an expert you are probably winding them up by telling them how to do the job.if you are worried ask to see their certificates.
Nothing wrong with tiling straight onto plasterboard, infact it has a higher strength per m2 than if plastered. I would have stripped and boarded the whole wall though.
