Hello All, first time hear and looking for DIY advise.

I have a 1960's ceiling in which has some joints opened.
I have scraped the painted ceiling paper off back to the finish plaster and found that they did not tape the joints.
As there has obviously been some movement over the years causing the joints to open I have screwed up where necessary and taped all open joints.
When scraping off the old paper the shiny surface of the finish plaster is gone.
I intend to get a professional plasterer in to give it a skim finish coat but wonder should I leave the plaster as is or should I give it a sealing coat with PVA first.
Any advise please.

Really? Is that the proper way to answer a question? Very prickly and totally unnecessary. This is not a grammar forum and not everyone has your obvious superior English language knowledge.

Any professional plasterer will PVA the ceiling themselves, a couple of times, as a matter of routine.
I pva a ceiling twice today. Still.chased my ass on the sneaky f**k**g thing. In end it was mint. .......until.i saw a hair line crack. Paint had come away under the coat of skim I had rekimmed. Luckily I got two more days there so I.ll patch it.

Yeah, when I said "a couple of times" I was just speaking generally, obviously, but I'm sorry to hear you've had a nightmare today
