Hey everyone just thought id introduce myself..
My names Owain Jones, im from Bangor North Wales.
Ive been working on building sties for 6 years, 3 of them labouring and 3 plastering. i am qualified to level 3 nvq plastering. i have my CSCS card and Asbestos awareness card. i feel i am confident in all aspects of plastering and rendering.
Works gone a little quiet in my area so i just thought id start broadening my contacts and knowledge.. there seems to be lots of useful information on this forum. if anyone needs a plasterer in the north Wales area give us a shout!

nice intro mate welcome aboard the good ship lolliepop. sling ya bag in the corner and make ya self at home

Hello Owain.

Nice of you to introduce yourself. Are you one of those English-hating Welsh from North Wales? You can tell me because I am 3/4 Irish and will understand.

Yes I have and that's why I asked tbh

This is a deviation from welcoming Owain, sorry Owain

A full explanation.
We spent a week in Wales my parents, my wife and daughter and sister and husband. We went to a pub one evening. The man behind the bar was unfriendly so we went outside with our drinks and sat down. A a few minutes later the men in the pub streamed out and formed a circle around us. They were verbally aggressive in Welsh. My father gave them a few sentences in Gaelic, telling them to get lost. The Gaelic shut them up and they went back in the pub. We were near to Betsy-Co-ed (?)

About 7 or 8 years ago I ran the last half marathon at Bruges. A Welsh group asked the group I was in, if we were interested in running some sort of endurance run in Wales. I mentioned my experience (as above) after enquires I was told, we are from South Wales and we are friendlier. The point being he readily confirmed my concerns. I have a few other similar but less eventful experiences of the Welsh in Wales. Of course my sample of a Welsh welcome is not necessarily representative of the Welsh as whole so I ask a Welshman from North Wales for an opinion.

Before I get accused of stereotyping and some form of prejudice, on the basis of my modest experiences of Wales I don't go there so as to avoid abuse. But maybe times have changed or are changing and Owain can give me an update?

Aaand breath :RpS_biggrin:

hey sliemasteve its very sad the situation you and your family had to endure.. there is a very small minority of welsh nationlaists who seem to hate most nationalities especially the english.. i have had a similar experience.. some welsh lads start slagging me and my girlfriend off in welsh thinking we do not understand as we are speaking english.. then for me to turn around to and unleash a mouth full of fluent welsh at them.. "narrow minded cun"s!"
this is a small minority and makes me sad as most of us in north wales are easy going friendly folk!

Thank you. I'm warming to the Welsh already.
