Help cold calling a patential employer

Hi guys just wondering if you have been cold called my someone asking for a job or work and what sort of things did they say or didn't say to put you off of them or to persuade you thanks
 
I get someone call maybe once a year usually someone asking if there is any work going.

Most of the time they are plasterers and I only do rendering. I always say no but ask them what experience they have. In my case they usually have very little rendering experience with a promise of they will soon pick it up. Never happens.

In summer when you need a hand the call of someone offering help never happens, it is usually this time of year when they ring but when May is here and work picks up they are off! The same happens in November when work slows down.

So now, I dont entertain cold callers offering labour unless they ring in the hogh season.
 
Well here's a good place to start. Stick a post up listing your location. Do you drive? Own tools? Experience? Why you want to do it? Etcetc. You never know.

This is a want? To encourage someone to give you this want you will need a plan on what you can give in return otherwise what is in it for them?

It needs to be a win-win.

Go to college mate. Its what I'm doing. Time flies by, I'll be done soon. And it's a good start if nothing else.
 
I would like to go to college but I can't afford to has I need to work at the same time as I need money as I have a 9 month old and have bills and things to pay so I couldn't really do a full time course
 
Just get on the phone buddy and chat... we are not scary people :-)

The trade is picking up so there will be a need for a bucket bitch and its the best way to learn... its not easy but anything worth having is worth working for...
 
I used to get letters. The ones that stood out was the ones that sent me letters again a month or two later. They showed determination.

I did take 2 of the letter writers on, dont bother with the cold callers.

Most of the letters was written in The Job Club (remember The Full Monty). So would have had been overseen by a supervisor.

i trained them both and had one for 3 years and the other 2 years. Both left and started up on their own. Both packed up within 1 year.
 
I get a couple of youngsters ringing per year and have had a couple of letters, I even had one from a young lass wanting a job about 5 years ago.

i get 2/3 calls a month from plastering gangs wanting work, but if I'm being honest, they are quite rude and abrupt on the phone, same with text messages.

r8 m8, u got ne work 4 2 spreads?

can just imagine a nice 16yr old bird with her chavy tracky bottoms on with a nice little pink thong hanging out whilst bent over mixing in an empty house together!!!!

I had a couple of 16 year old girl yts's dumped on me foc. One was a laugh and tried but left to work in a cafe, the work was too heavy. The other was a skinhead and as hard as nails. No one ever sussed she was a girl. She left after 2 weeks as she got offer a joiners shop apprenticeship working with another female. **** scared of her, did kick boxing and loved getting into fights.

She might have been, but her mates was both sexes. A bit like one of the girls in 'This is England'. She certainly didn't take any crap. But if you was ok with her she was ok with you. Self confessed joy rider though, favourite stolen car was Astra Gte and didn't care about the victim. This was early 90's.
